Pen,
We've had Daily about six and a half years or so. She has a TON of nicknames...some weirder than others. God help my kids if I ever have any...
Daily Doodle
Daily monster
Fluffy Flufferson
Pookie Pookerson
Smelly Smellerson (only when the bath is overdue)
Bitey Biterson (only when you are trying to get something she is eating away from her. She LOVES to eat paper products, plants, peanuts for the squirrels, cigarrette butts, you name it.)
Mui Poochinski
Hocus Poocus
Pooks
Punk (short for Pumpkin)
Most annoying doggie on the planet (See bitey name).
Cutest doggie on the planetI feel like that character on Saturday Night Live. You know, the one who sat by the copier and gave everyone stupid derivative nicknames. Oh well. We all have our little embarrassing behaviors.
I think Daily has some terrier in her too. Or maybe schnauzer. But officially she is beagle, bassett, and cocker spaniel. Can you believe it? When she was a pup, she looked like the rest of the litter, which all looked like beagles, except she had these longer hairs poking out from the short beagle fur. She's always been a little different looking. But we think she's the cutest dog in the world.
What is the story of your dogs?

HA!
So cute - love the nicknames.
Yeah, I usually call my girls various things other than their 'official' names: monkey dogs, pookie, punkin', pud n' pen, goosie girls, sweet baboos, baby dogs, and so on and so forth...
My mom calls Lucy - Lucy Mae, Lucy Goosie, Moose, Moosie, Lucy Mae Hambone, Lucy Mae Hammie, Mouly wan (don't ask - I'm not sure myself!!!)...
Doogie is Doog, Doogie Miner, Doogie Minerer, Sugey (shu-gee) Miner, Sug (shug), Minkie Miner, Ol' man Doog (as he's getting quite old), and so on...
Very very strange...I wonder sometimes if the poor things even know their names?
The story of my babies: I got Puddin' shortly after moving into my own apartment for the first time, about a year after I graduated college (spring 99). She was 3 months old - I was living in a garage apartment and had never asked my landlord about the prospect of pets - I went to Petsmart one day and they had the adoption group there and I saw her, called the landlord from the payphone outside the store!, and asked if I could have a puppy - he said, "Go ahead..." so I adopted her. She was so meek and submissive and sweet as could be. I never had a minute's trouble with her...
About three months later, I was looking for a companion for her and saw my lil' Penny at another Petsmart adopt-a-thon - I asked the woman about her, and she said they didn't know her history, they had only had her a week, she had just been spayed. They estimated she was about 1 1/2 years old, and she didn't like the other dogs. Some woman picked her up and then sat her on the floor in front of her and Pen just shook. She was so thin and her coat was dull and she looked pitiful. That woman said, "She's quite timid - would probably be a lot of work!" and left. I went in, drawn in by her size (she's now 13 lbs.), curly tail and sad eyes :-( and held her on her back like a baby, cradled in my arms. She licked my chin, and I had to have her! I went home, got my Pud and took her back to the store, where I introduced her to Pen, and Pen never growled once. Today they are the best of friends - but Penny still doesn't like other dogs!
Anyway, they have so saved my life on more than one occasion. I can't tell you how many times I have gone home feeling completely out of control, freaking out, upset, etc., and they were there with all the love in the world for me, completely unconditional, and kept me sane - brought me back to reality. I don't know what I would do without my baby dogs...
I really need to go to bed now!!! It's 15 til' one a.m. my time, and I have to work tomorrow!!!
argh...
Oh - I posted more pics of dogs and little me...

Pen, (is it okay if I call you that?)
Love the photo album. Your last pic. of you could be me in some ways. I love the bangs. My mom always used to "trim" mine, and she was NOT skilled at this. They were always crooked, and I have a bunch of cowlicks, making it much harder. But I love your hair. I am a redhead courtesy of Loreal. I would so love to be a natural redhead. Uh oh. If I am on the road to becoming more of my authentic, real self, does this mean I have to go back to being a brunette? And, god forbid, show all my gray????
Look at the ears on Doogie!
Thanks for posting these. All I could find was one baby pic. I am going to my mom's this weekend to find others and scan them in.
Take care,
gg

Pen is fine. It's what I call my dog most of the time... ;-)
Yeah, I have a cowlick and the bangs were probably trimmed by either mom or my grandmother. Sigh. It got worse - the summer before I started 9th grade my mom trimmed my bangs (when I still thought I could wear bangs!) and cut them WAAAAY too short! I was soooo upset. At least they grew out before I started high school! Now my hair is longish (past my shoulders) and a bit wavy (what little natural wave it has) and still red (I'm not going gray...yet) and no bangs. I like it best when it's a bit shorter and cut in a bob, but I haven't had it cut in a while. Oh well...
Those Doogie ears are the funniest things! It's like he got the length of the dachshund ears but the perkiness of the chi ears, and he can stick them more up or out to the side, but not down! It's hilarious. My grandmother always says my mom should have named him "Gizmo" after the creature on Gremlins b/c of those ears. Or Radar.

Penny, your dogs are cute as can be. And you were just an adorable little girl. There's a little girl a year younger than my son at his school that looks a lot like you. I'm trying to get him to notice her so that one day (a long time from now of course) I can have red haired grandchildren. :)

Bodega was named after Bodega Bay. In California. Where "The Birds" was shot. Apparently, my boyfriend's parents went there on a vacation and loved it so much they named their dog after it. When they moved to Paris, right after buying the dog, my boyfriend had to keep the dog. So, after they moved back home, I refused to give the dog back. Hence, I now own Bodega. So, if my boyfriend and I seperate, I always say, "We will draw a contract for visitation rights for you." Many times I tell my therapist, I only stay with my old man for the dog. I keep trying to talk my boyfriend into getting a greyhound or a malamute. He refuses to get a malamute, as we recall all the problems we had with Bodega as a child. He even tore up our couch once..... He was feisty!!!!

Cool!
Yes - I think you should definitely make a point of keeping Bodega no matter what!
Yes, huskies can be quite feisty, even when grown. Greyhounds can be trouble as well - I have a friend who petsits for two greyhounds her former boss got from a rescue group for former racing dogs. They are so sweet - but the female has major separation anxiety. The man has had to have his back door (the one he uses more often) replaced more than once b/c she will chew at the frame and the door to try to get out when he's not home. She sleeps in a crate at night, but he doesn't want to keep her crated all day too, so he lets the dogs have the run of the house. He's thought about a doggy door - but it would have to be big enough for a person to fit through, so wouldn't be safe. He tries to not leave them alone for too long at a time, but doesn't always have a choice, and he lives alone.
Oh my...
And my lil' Penny was quite a troublemaker when I first got her too. She taught Puddin' to chew things up (had never had a problem before getting Pen) and she joined in, and for a while, until I started crating them when I wasn't at home, I was having a lot of trouble. But now that they're a little older, I don't have to crate them anymore and they're fine. Though I still don't leave plastic of any kind laying around where Pud can get ahold of it when I'm gone! She loves to eat plastic if she can.

Thank you, dahling.
All of the dogs we've had have been such good babies. I really miss my Jake, though. My parents decided for my 12th birthday that we could get a small dog to stay in the house (now the large dog is in the house too, but not back then). I wanted a puppy - but the shelter only had large breed pups, so I decided to get Jake. He was so quiet and in a pen with 2 yappy terriers and he looked petrified. My parents were like, "are you sure? he's not a puppy..." and I said, "Yes, I'm sure." So we took him home. He was such a good dog. My dad, who wasn't much of an animal person, was changed by Jake. Now their dalmatian, Lucy, is really more my dad's dog than my mom's! And Doogie is her little shadow.

That wasn't her actual name, but I was trying (unsuccesfully probably) to maintain some privacy.
That little dog was the love of my life. If there's an afterlife, I want to spend it with her at my side. She was my happiness.
