It would also make me feel.. okay I'll say odd having someone ask other posters about me when I'm right there.

I didn't think there was anything wrong in answering Phillipa's question since the answer is right here on the boards in another post that "5" made. She said elsewhere "RIP a_k" in response to another poster.
I wasn't disclosing anything that wasn't already posted!!
I'm not even going to apologize for this silly thing.ClearSKies

Dinah, please un "XX" my original post. I really protest that my words are being edited without my knowledge.

I think the point was more that it was odd not to be asked directly.
If someone posted "Can someone tell me why GAbbix does such and such?"
When I'm right there to be asked, it would make me feel like a non-person, or I would suspect that they knew I would not really want to answer, and so would find out from someone else.
I think the fact that 5 said rip x_x and not the entire name made it quite clear that she wasn't comfortable being open about it yet.
That's a big difference from saying her posting name, and it was within the body of ONE post on admin. It may not seem to be a big leap to the current posters who know her, but to subsequent posters, or future archives searchers it certainly is, and 5
has mentioned that as a concern several times. Is it really worth it to have 5 made more uncomfortable, whether or not you can understand the reason, just to have your words preserved as you wrote them?
Let's be realistic, it's one post on a Web Board
it's not an article for the New York times.

How about you give this one a rest, Gaqbbi?

*You* initially responded to my post to 5 and ask me to "give it a rest" when I answer you?
I think not.I was trying to see 5's point of view, well I do see it. I would have felt the same way.
I don't think a little support will hurt right now, and no I'm not about to give that a rest either. If you're completely cool with what you did, you certainly don't need to defend it to me, that's not what I was asking for when I posted to her.

Its truely amazing, I found, the 'communication' that goes on behind the scenes on babble about posters personal issues.
One of the reasons I have my babblemail switched off now, is because before when I was posting, I began babble mailing with afew people, which then led on to emails. Once I was commnicating through emails, it was clear to see that my emails were being forwarded on to other posters for them to read.
Perhaps I was under the impression, that because I was commicating through email, what I had to say there was personal to me, and intended solely for the recipient I had emailed. When I emailed with someone else, the same goes. To find out my emails were being spread around between posters, I thought, whats the point in emailing why not just post what you have to say to me on the board so everyone can see it? It felt to me that my emails were public viewing anyway, when snippets started to come out on the baords. I then made it clear to the people that I was emailing, very politely, that what I discuss in emails are privite, otherwise I'd post it on the baords. Only to then have even more snippets come on to the boards about my privite life.
I felt my privacy was violated, but of course this is just my experience, and it happened along time ago.
Although, I'd still like to warn people, perhaps new members of babble that when emailing people off the boards you may find that your emails are being forwarded on to people you'd rather they didn't and people you don't even know.
Of course, if you are okay with your emails being forwarded on to other people its no problem. For me it felt like people were talking behind my back, no need to mention how I felt about that.

I moved your admin related posts to Admin.
I imagine that 5 was requesting that you ask 5.

ewwwwwwwww
Anyone I e-mail with (and there are only a couple of people) I have a strict, what's said off the boards, stays off the boards policy.
I said to someone once that I don't babblemail much because I always imagine a network of frantic operators with headsets on forwarding babblemails, to satisfy the demand for information on the latest gossip.
Maybe I wasn't so far wrong.

Oh that sounded bad. Sorry.
when I said that, I meant if I felt like babblemailing someone I didn't really post to, but just wanted to offer some genuine support to someone having a rough time. I worried that it would be taken as my wanting the inside scoop on what was going on, so I seldom did it.
It was more my own worry than thinking that about everyone else.
I'm really fortunate, all the people I've had come into my personal life through babble, have been really excellent people.I had one person (no longer here) who was always wanting to know, and second guess who was doing what on babble and why, but that wasn't my thing and once that was made clear there wasn't much left.

You have nothing to apologize for. You did nothing wrong. You merely stated the obvious. Only a handful of posters probably didn't know.
Even I figured it out after all the clues "5" left.

I'm not saying it was done with ill intent.
And sure some would have figured it out,It wasn't obvious to everyone though. And I know a few people who've changed their name because they don't want people to search the archives and associate them with previous information. OR they have someone at home who has figured out where they post and who they are, so they want a change.
The full name would show up clearly in a babble search, including the post revealing the old and new name.
The initials left by 5 would not be so easy to find, nor did she make a direct link from one name to the other. Obviously for her own reasons she was trying to be discrete.
And I don't think it's really up to us to decide whether or not it's valid, or whether or not she did a good enough job. It's not just about us seeing "well it's obvious anyway, why not just say it"
I've seen people direct other posters to an e-mail address that a poster has left for someone in particular. Í'd feel invaded by that too, though I probably wouldn't get really angry, but unless it was two people I knew very well, I'd find it presumptuous.

Since I just xxx'd out the revelation of the prior posting name of a current poster, which no poster is under an obligation to give, and which no poster should be pressured to give, I also xxxx'd out a name in this post. However, since it was asked as a question rather than a statement, I have asked Dr. Bob, and if he thinks it's appropriate he'll restore the name.
In the meantime, could everyone please wait for his determination before posting it again?
