I have been on Celexa for 8 months now and feel that it is not working anymore. I am not depressed like I use to be but do feel down at times. I no longer have the sweats etc. I am wondering would I feel this same way if I quit the meds or do I continue? I am only seeing my family doctor and he said he really doesn't like to keep prescribing for more than 1 year. I guess what I want to know is does a SSRI stop working after awhile. Does it do the job and then quit? How do you really know when to go off?

They actually call it the SSRI "poop out". If you are feeling down "at times", why don't you try a slow taper under your doc's supervision- make sure you just don't stop after 8 months. Hopefully you can do well w/o it, if not check out a psychologist for ways to deal with your down feelings without drugs. Take care.
