Changin Meds SUCKS

Posted by Crystal on March 1, 2001, at 14:59:52

I am so frustrated. I wish I had never changed medications. I felt like a million on paxil except for that I started to feel uncomfortable about the weight I had gained. This sucks. I have been on the Prozac for 6 weeks but only 2 weeks at 40 mg and 1 week on buspar when anxiety seemed to increase on Prozac. I suffer from depression and I think some OCD, maybe more who knows.
I get so scared that I am never going to feel the way I did before and that trying to change meds could have been the dumbest mistake. I finally made an appointment to see a psychiatrist but it will be one month before I can get in. I have been getting my meds through my family doctor who seems to be somewhat knowledgeable believe it or not. I constantly consider going back to the paxil but what if it doesn't work for me this time and then I will be a fat happy person instead of a thinning freaked out person.

Any words of incouragement or advice would be appreciated.
THANKS

me again
Has anyone had experiences with pdocs trying to overmedicate you or pin you with a condition/diagnosis that you don't have. This worries me too. Kind of leary to go to one for these reason. How do you find a good pdoc and what questions do you ask?

You could go back to the Paxil and add Lithium or pindolol to accelerate it-- possibly reducing the waiting period to something like 3-4 weeks. Pindolol restarted my Parnate within two weeks.

I was on Paxil also for several months; it worked but I was always hungry. I came off it and my anxiety and depression eventually returned. Paxil did work well the 2nd time I tried it. I am now on 40 mg of Prozac up from 20 mg, up from 10 mg, and it works very well. Give it a little time. Buspar usually makes Prozac work a lot better for those with generalized anxiety disorder. I would give it a little more time. I do take a little Xanax before bedtime, but the Prozac is wonderful for me now, and I even lost a few pounds. I'm not hungry on it. You might need to take a little ativan or xanax when needed for a week or two till you are totally used to the 40 mg. Prozac works best usually 2 or 3 months after starting. I am on almost two months and the 40 mg has worked wonders. Give it a little time. The Paxil may not work again for you, and the weight gain is tough. Good luck.

Thank you
I have found that my depression has lessened a lot but I cannot tell any difference in the obsessive/intrusive thoughts. It is tuff. Thanks for your support.
