I agree with those people who state that you should start
on the lowest dosage possible in order to avoid alot of
the side effects... personally even on 10mgs the first few weeks
were agony... in general I felt an underlying calmness
and with that in mind and the suppport of friends (and
husband) I managed my way through it... the anxiety and
insomnia was AWFUL... I am now feeling much been
(8 weeks)but am wondering if it may be time for a
slight dosage increase... I find myself wanting to drink
coffee to wake myself up... but that defeats the prupose
of why a am taking the stuff to begin with
(for panic disorder with agoraphobia) I realize that
alot of my problem is cognitive... been learned over the
last 30 years...However... anyone out there no if the
doage increase to 20mgs will adjust to give me an
increased energy and calmness...or will I have to go through
hell again (anxiety and more horrible insomnia)!!!
I feel better and do not want to get worse to get
EVEN more better
Thanks in advance for any advise...

>if i understand correctly you are still on 10 mgs. that is a very low dose. i would ask your dr. about going up to 20 right away. i take 30 now. my first week on 10 mg. was, like you, hell. anxiety and insomnia were awful. but the jump from 10 to 20 and then 20 to 30 caused no side effects. Good luck.

I started at 20 mgs. Celexa, then went to 40 mgs. where I have been for 4 weeks. I did not really begin to see the benefits of Celexa until I went up to the 40 mg. dose. Celexa has now totally stabalized my depression! I did initially have insomnia (though I had that before I started, so it is hard to say what caused it), so my pdoc added 15 mg. of Remeron at bedtime. This combination has been so effective that I have now completely weaned off the benzos- used Klonopin substitution to wean off Xanax, last Klonopin dose 10 days ago. I still have the Klonopin for use as needed, but haven't needed it.
Ultimately the choice must be up to you and your doc, but I have had very good results with the Celexa/Remeron combo at proper therapeutic doses. Good luck to you!
