Neurontin,Soma,Paxil,Depakote,Inderal,Klonopin

Hi!
I have been diagnosed with a number of disorders. Mainly
Bipolar II-fast cycling. It runs in my family. I also
have a lot of OCD and possibly ADD.

I am on a lot of medication right now, and I'm really
apprehensive about it. I am on Inderal 80mg 1xday, Paxil
20mg 1 at night, 1mg Klonopin 2xday, Neurontin 600mg
3xday (down from 900 3xday), Depakote 250 2xday (just
up from 125 2xday), and Soma 350mg 3xday.

I have been on SSRI's before for brief periods and it
always seems to cause mania. I start bing drinking
which I know is wrong, but I feel a whole lot better
afterwards (minus a mild hangover). A few Serax take
off the edge.

This is a lot of meds. I was referred to another
doctor because my doctor didn't feel equipped to deal
with the complexity of meds and stuff to deal with.

Really, overall, I feel pretty good most of the time
but when I get manic, oh man, I'm ready to bail.

Shoot me up, shut me up, put me out, is all I can think
about when this happens (manic). Otherwise, I don't
think I'm such a bad case! I am really a bright
guy who has a lot to give to society. HELP!!!!

William,

I'm really sorry to hear about your rapid cycling.
It would be a good idea to see another physician
if your current doc feels that it is a good idea.
BTW, this is a sign that your current doctor is
highly ethical. I have run into doctors who refuse
to believe they can't solve the problem and should
have consulted me to another physician.

Here is one idea. Have you tried Lamictal (an anti-convulsant)? There are a lot of reports that
it is extremely successfull as a monotherapy for
treatment refractory rapid cycling bipolar patients. I have taken it with negligible side-effects.
