Hi - I am at my wit's end with my GP advising on meds for depression. I want to see a specialist. Any suggestions? I'm very new to the area and "new" (again) to seeking psych treatment. Thanks!

What part of the Chicago area are you in? I can give you a reccomendation for a good psychiatrist on the South side (Palos Heights) if you are interested. Let me know.

Thanks, Jason. I am now in the middle of HMO Hell and I have called no less than 50 offices near me (I am in Lakeview/LIncoln Park) and all of them can't see me for over a month.
The only lead I got was from Lakeshore Hospital and then, only after waiting an hour, they told me they could only take me as an inpatient.
So essentially I am not suicidal, homicidal, or psychotic, but I should come back and see them when I graduate to that state (!).
If 10% of the population has this problem, then why is the system so f@#ked?!

So it sounds like you need to make an appt. and
do what ever it takes to get you through that month and to the appt. If this is what it takes
to start getting better then so be it. It is worth it and you are worth it, too. Perhaps the list can help you come up with some things to help you cope till that appt. We are here to help.Pat
