Anyone out there take xanax and serzone? I was on prozac
and xanax and then celexa and xanax for depression with
marked anxiety. I had to quit both AD's because of side
effects, but my experience with xanax was similar for both.
Once the antidepressant kicked in I found it relatively
easy to taper and go off the xanax- some mild flue like
symptoms, irritibility but that was it. Even at my highest
dose of 3-4 mg for 8wks, it was easier to get off xanax than get on
prozac, celexa, serzone. So I am at week 5 of serzone and
I can finally feel it kicking in (and minimal side effects
so I am very hopeful). So I tried to go off xanax (only 1mg/day for
6 wks) with slow taper, but wow there was immediate return
of what felt like a greater anxiety than my initial baseline.
So I am back on it with no desire to get off soon. Any similar
experiences with xanax and serzone.

Mikel,
There is an interaction between Serzone and Xanax.
As explained to me by my pdoc, Serzone inhibits the liver enzyme that metabolizes Xanax, thus extending its half-life and increasing blood levels. This is one reason why I was not put on that combination- because I was taking Xanax at the time, I was put on Paxil (which did not work)and then Celexa (which did) I'd check this out with your doc to see if it is at the root of your current problem.Daveman
