I have insomnia probably as a result of anxiety. I have tried Trazodone with no luck. 150 mgs makes me very tired but I cannot fall asleep. I also do not like how it makes me feel the next day, especially on an hour of sleep!
My doc is suggesting I try either Serzone or Remeron. I am wondering if Serzone would have the same type of effect on me since it is so closely related to Trazodone.
Of course, I am also concerned about the weight gain associated with Remeron, but have also read on this board that it has antihistamine like qualities. If I take antihistamines, such as Benadry at night, I will not sleep at all. Is it possible that this would happen with Remeron, or do I have to just try it and see?
Any insight would be appreciated.

I agree with your doc. Serzone might work even though it's "cousin" Trazodone did not. And Remeron might work even though the antihistamine did'nt. They are both also good for anxiety. Remeron at a small dose (15 mg) is very good for sleep. But it does make some people gain weight.

hopko,
I'm on serzone now, and it is less sedating. However when I first started it, I couldn't get enough sleep! I was always sleepy & dreaming (pun intended) of being cuddled in my bed. =) It worked for me (and I was having terrible anxiety, nightmares & insomnia).PS: Serzone even caused me to loose a few lbs.

Hi Sunny,
Thanks for your comments. After much research, I opted for remeron. After the first few days, I am doing fine. It did not make me "comatose" (I wish!)at night as some people have reported but I did start sleeping better. It is still taking me a while to fall asleep and I am waking up a few times during the night, but I am doing SO much better that the previous 2 weeks (2-3 hours a night at most.)I am taking 15mg along with 6mg of melatonin. I am hoping to quit the melatonin before long.
The first couple of days I felt very spacey during the day...foggy would be a better word, but that seems to be resolving. I AM watching what I eat though! I am unusually hungry!
This is the end of the thread.
