Effexor and pregnancy

Posted by Nicole H on April 7, 2001, at 10:23:39

I have been taking taking 150mg of Effexor XR for about a year. A week and a half ago, I found out that I'm pregnant. The first thing I did was to call my psychiatrist and ask for advice on what I should do. Despite 3 messages to his office, I have not heard from him. My primary care physician's receptionist called in about 10 37.5mg capsules for me and suggested that I take 2 for a while, then go down to one, then discontinue. My withdrawal has been unbearable - dry mouth, nausea, lightheadedness, etc. I've had to miss several days of work. How long can I expect the withdrawal symptoms to last? I don't want to take any more for fear that it will harm my baby.

If in doubt about a substance, call the University of California, San Diego Teratogen Hotline free of charge: Its number is on this page - http://www.otispregnancy.org/ctis.html
