EffexorAt 300Mg's

Posted by Louis18 on June 5, 2001, at 10:47:41

I have been taking effexor XR for the last 2 years. Recently. I have felt rather anxious and short tempered. My MD suggested I increase it to 300mg. Any suggestions or comments on Effexor at this new dosage would be welcomed.
Thank you in advance

Well, the maximum is 375, right(?) But 300 is good enough to block the reuptake of dopamine in the brain, which is very beneficial in depression. Lower doses of Effexor do not do this.

Hi!

I have been on 450mg without any problem. I have read that dosages up to 600 mg, can be neccecery sometimes. Just check the bloodpressure, and liverenzymes. I know from my own experience that its very importent with a completely remission from the depressive state. Otherwise its a risk of relaps. So don´t hesitate to increase the dosage. I know that some psychian are to conservative, and often use to low dosage. Go for it!

Best Regards//Petter

Here is part of my Reality:
I have been taking Effexor XR 300 mg each a.m. for the last three years. Then I became pregnant. And I am 7 weeks along. And there is no data or research concerning effects of this RX on a fetus etc etc- so to make a long story short.. I had to wean myself off for a week, and then stop. Otherwise I'd more than likely lose the baby. (I had a miscarriage in the first week of March).
So I have no choice. But you know what? you do.. and I am still Reeling from the side effects of being WITHOUT the effexor.
Forgive the rambling anecdote quality to my post here but here goes.. not just for your benefit but for the others out there who will wonder also..
How come my docs never told me how debilitating and torturous it is to get off of Effexor? I am thinking that even though the Effexor works so well, it is just so high of a dose for a relativley new drug & just what are the side effects of these doses for us far down the line when we need transplants or whatever it will be causing?? We just do NOT know.. that's the hard part.
It is different for everyone.. as far as choices etc. But From reading posts here, and my own horrible reality.. withdrawal at these higher doses is a pretty inhuman pain. Do you want to subject yourself to that -- > Do you want to have to resort to letting medicine rule your life for as long as you may live?
Of course I realize it is necessary at times.. I took it for so long and didn't realize till now WHAT A Different PERSON it turned me into. Then again, I have not hid in a closet for the past three years, I have not wielded knives to my poor arm... now I look at the scars and wonder why.. and now I am off the medicine and I remember...
(I cried while waiting in line at a drive-through because it was so HOT and it was taking so LONG during my lunch hour... I actually cried.. is it being pregnant or the effect of no more mood enhancing drugs?)

The thing is, isn't there something ELSE you and others could do instead of increasing the amount of Effexor? Maybe a combination therapy? Too much of Effexor is just a loaded gun to your head.
But that's my opinion only. Take it, leave it.. just remember the immortal words.."I TOLD YOU SO"

AS ALWAYS.. Good luck to all, and hopefully some day we won't all have to go to message boards for answers to our questions. Maybe someday the drug companies will have the answers. And not the Side effects.
