I have noticed alot of people mentioning weight gain with thier SSRIs....I have taken Paxil for 5 years and am just switching to Celexa because I really need my libido back!
I gained weight immediately after starting Paxil...about 50 pounds! I found there are some solutions to counteract this and have lost all the weight! First, I started working-out daily, as the endorphins from a good workout also help with depression! Then, I cut out salt from my diet and now try to avoid processed foods and drinks...even diet sodas..(which contain TONS of salt!!!)...this will help with the water retention, which I think is most of what the weight gain is. I drink at least 8 glasses of water a day to flush my system, plus alot of fruits and veggies....this seems to work for me...it's been a major process, but not only did I lose the weight, but I am also feeling better with the healthier eating habits! I think the added chemicals and stuff in processed foods contribute to depression.
I have also added a daily dose of vitamin B6...which is another good way to get rid of that "bloat" and Chromium GTF which helps with food cravings.
I can't imagine living without my AD..as I have tried a few times to get off without any success.
Anyhoo...I hope this helps...anyone with any other "tips" on dealing with SSRIs and weight gain would be great!
This is the end of the thread.
