hi. i'm a recovering addict and alcoholic, diag as bi-polar II, with major depressive
episodes and anxiety. in the last round of drug trials (paxil, now wellbutrin) i've
experienced major panic and anxiety. i am not on any mood stabilizer. my pdoc
prescribed ativan, for the panic. my trouble is knowing when to take the ativan (short of
"as needed"). the anxiety is always present, and i consistantly want to take the ativan
(like any good drug addict would ;) . .. although it definitely helps, i'm wondering if there
isn't something else that would calm the anxiety without triggering my addictions. i've
tried kava, without effect. anyone have any experience with this? any advice on
knowing when to take the ativan (short of running screaming from a room or curling up
in a ball under my desk)? gdog

Hi. Ask your doc about adding Neurontin (a mood stabilzer) to your mix. It has helped some folks suffering with anxiety. Good luck. Take care
kid
PS.... Wellbutrin has been known to exacerbate anxiety.

thanks for the neurontin tip. ..and i guess this would be instead of ativan? and has no addictive risks? i know that wellbutrin can exacerbate anxiety, especially in bi-polars.. .which makes me wonder why pdoc prescribed it. we're just searching for something that works. gdog

No classic addiction risk with Neurontin that I've ever heard of. Don't know if you'll be able to dc the Ativan all together-maybe just need it less often. Good luck
kid
PS... WellB can have an energizing effect if you suffer with fatigue.
