Prozac for Effexor withdrawal?

Posted by rosalinda on June 10, 2001, at 20:59:30

Hello--Has anyone tried treating Effexor withdrawal with a short course of Prozac? Some psych sites I've looked at have recommended this, but they have only had doctors' opinions, not patients' experiences.

I had hoped that reducing the Effexor dosage gradually would make it easier to kick this stuff, but it hasn't, so I'm trying to figure out something else...I've spent most of the last 2 weeks in bed because of the brain shocks, vertigo, gastrointestinal problems, etc., and it's getting a little old!

Thank you, and good luck to all of you who are struggling through this agonizing withdrawal.

Yes, I've been through the same thing but with Luvox. My dr. was supposed to switch me over to Prozac and slowly decrease my Luvox, but I never made it. A few days after I completeley stopped the luvox, i went through a psychological HELL (Especially the 'brain shocks') I was supposed to wait 2 weeks before starting the Prozac, but I said fuck it, I'm taking it NOW! but after 3 days, i noticed no relief so I gave up and went back on the Luvox. You might try asking your dr. about using something like Buspar.. ?? Hope you get better!! Take care and God bless!

My experience in withdrawing from effexor xr, was that the prozac definately helped. I went thru the hellish withdrawal for a week when someone suggested this. I took 10mg. of prozac for only 2 days..... the withdrawal symtoms went away. Hopefully it'll work for you too. Good luck!

Actually, I treated it myself with St John's Wort (it was a holiday-wkend) and turned out okay....not fun, but not bedridden either.
