Effexor makes me dizzy

Posted by DN on July 9, 2001, at 13:43:30

Currently at 225mg of effexorXR for about 2 weeks and feel extremely dizzy. Has anyone run into this side effect. How long does it take to go away.

effexor made me dizzy for a good couple of weeks and i started at 37.5mg. did you slowly ramp up? going to a higher dose too quickly can amplify side effects like this. i was slowly ramped up to a higher dose. i started at 37.5 for about a week and a half, then went to 75, and so forth. don't worry, the diziness should probably cease once your body gets used to the medicine.

I had similiar problems starting effexor, and then when I upped my dosage... I cant say its really dizziness like you are spinning, but It was dizziness in a way that made it very dificult to concentrate... i would define it best as 'totally spaced out'...

I take xanax for general anxiety and side effects (which now are minor)... my body adpated pretty quickly to the dosage increase, and in two weeks im sure i'll go up another 37.5 or so...

***but*** if you are having these side effects, dont just tuff it out, call your pdoc and see if he can give you something that might make things easier for you to adjust to the dosage... you shouldnt have to suffer if there is something that can be done.

At what dosage did you start? At what increments have you increased dosage? I think the answers to these questions may help you. I also started at 37.5 then 75, etc. and experienced dizziness with each dose increase. I purposely asked for regular Effexor after awhile so that I could increase dosages in smaller amounts (i.e. halving the 75mg tablets). That helped me adjust to the increased dosages better (still a small amount of dizziness with each increase but very brief). I have been at 262.5 for one month and feel quite good and no longer experience 'Effexor dizziness'. One thing: the idea to ask for the regular Effexor tablets was my idea; my GP thought it odd, but granted my wishes. I am not sure how/if your doc will respond. Hope this helps.
