Getting off Paxil--Can I drink alcohol again?

Posted by Pattisun on July 18, 2001, at 1:28:47

Boy, it's been a rough two weeks, but I went from 20 mg (for over 5 years) down to 10. I really thank you all on this board, you inspired me!

I tried to get liquid Paxil from my new doctor but he said I didn't need it, just take 10s and if I feel bad go back up. (he was real understanding---NOT).

Whenever I get completely off for a while, can I finally have a glass of wine again? Or NOT because I still take Klonopin. Not that I care about drinking, but it just feels to good to get closer to getting off this addicting med.

I actually have cried and laughed and felt some sexual desire stirring about. I may get to feeling alive again!

Hurray to dumping this med! It was good at the time, but I've been on it an extra 4 1/2 years because I was so scared of the withdrawals!

Wish me luck on the last 10 mgs!

I don't know the answer to your question about alcohol. The answer probably varies from one person to another. Since you are feeling better on 10 mg than 20, do you think that maybe you should stay on 10 for a few months and see how it goes rather than quitting right now? It might be that 10 mg will be better for you than quitting.

Hooray 4 U! I was on Paxil (30mg for about 7 years) and on the bad advice from a good pdoc, went off it in a mere four days. OMG, the withdrawal I went through was HORRIBLE. I was so sick for a couple of weeks.

I also still take Klonopin (along with some other meds), and my advice, for what it's worth would be to WAIT until you're at least totally OFF the Paxil to have a glass of wine again.

Then give it a try - ONE glass of wine - sip it and enjoy it leisurely and see how you feel. Probably an individual thing.

Klonopin's prescribing info says NOT to mix with alcohol and the pharmacy where I get my prescriptions always puts a little "do not mix with alcohol" type sticker on the bottle.

GOOD LUCK on 10 mg/day of Paxil - I would think a couple of weeks on that, then maybe cut the tablets in half to 5's for a week, and you'll have done a good, successful tapering OFF.

Keep us posted on how you do.

You can drink while on Klonopin but you will
get more intoxicated, with less alcohol. I have
done it many times, just be carefull not to
drink to much are you will get very sloppy drunk.

off Paxil because I want to see if I can do it!

I just want off this drug. I've been on it over 5 years and have stayed on just because I was scared of the withdrawal symptoms. Same for the Klonopin too, except without that I get panic attacks.

The Paxil was given for panic attacks and I don't think it helps them at all. All it really did was numb my emotions and body responses.

So, it's a personal challenge now to see if I can make mind over matter and get off this stuff.

But, your observation is logical. And, if I really feel lousy and decide I am better taking it, I won't go over 10 again.

Thanks

Maybe if you get hit with the panic attacks again (God forbid), you can go try Serzone.

Can you take Serzone + Klonopin?

I always get panic attacks whenever anything is out of wack with my body (too tired, illness, novacain on an empty stomach, roller coasters, coffee, alcohol, etc.) Klonopin keeps me pretty well in check.

Serzone seems to check out pretty good and may help with my insomnia caused by the Fibromyalgia.

Can you take Serzone + Klonopin? I noticed Xanax + Serzone is a no no!

Thanks Sal

p.s. Did you get your meds you needed?
