To DEBBIE - re EFFEXOR higher dosing:

Posted by Janelle on July 16, 2001, at 21:50:52

Hi - how fascinating and encouraging to read that you have gone up to 225mg of EffexorXR, had no side effects and MAGICALLY started feeling so much better to the point where you feel that Effexor has been a life saver for you. This is just what the person who recommended that I try EffexorXR for my anxiety said - that it is her lifesaver - she takes 150 mg/day.

I will discuss the possibility of increasing beyond 150mg with my pdoc, although she said she thought maybe EffexorXR is too stimulating and too activating for me. But maybe this is dose-related. I'm still leery of Effexor being "right one" for me.

I also have major difficulty getting to sleep at night, and then when I'm finally asleep I wake up too soon (but thankfully able to get back to sleep) even BEFORE I started on EffexorXR.

I'm currently taking Zyprexa for sleep and more (bipolarII), and would like to find an anti-depressant that is sedating that I could take at night instead of Zyprexa. I don't like feeling like a walking pharmacy with all these meds and would like to get it down to as few as possible. Thanks for what you mentioned about higher dose of EffexorXR ... it's certainly something for me to ponder!

Janelle,

You know, a lot of people have problems with Effexor, I am a minority I guess. I am sure you will find one "right one for you soon".

The thing I find disturbing about Effexor is the mention of withdrawals. I am scared to come off of it. I have no intention of weaning from it anytime soon. Have you experienced any withdrawals from it yet?

Also, take a look at my thread below, I would like your opinion.

Maybe I was wrong about higher dosing for you. Only you know your body!!!

Hello Janelle,

I have been reading your posts about Effexor XR. I also am on a very high dose - 300gm! I also had trouble sleeping at night so I switched to taking it first thing in the morning...it worked and I no longer have trouble falling asleep.
Hope this helps.

Also, Effexor has been good for me and my anxiety and obsessive thinking BUT it must be pooping out because I have the racing thoughts again and obsessive thinking. I am taking 10 mg Prozac on top with the hope of switching back to Prozac entirely.
