I mean, what I'm talking about is being on benzos, being perscribed them for anxiety... Perhaps you take them daily... I try not to take them at night... And I drink at night... The only reason I ask is that some people seem to truly have som trepidation when it comes to this, that it seems to be a hazard beyond the general, thou shalt not mix benzos and alcohol... I mean we know that it says this, but what is the harm beyond the increased effectiveness of the sedative agent...I'm not planing some mad alcohol/xanax spree, but I am a drinker, and oddly enough, not depressed enough at the moment to disregard my health entirely.
Thanks to anyone w/ some input on this.

In reply to Mixing Benzos + Alcohol , truly bad or what?!? , posted by kid_A on July 19, 2001, at 16:31:46
Well hey, Kid_A!
Sounds like we're in the same boat. My experience has been this: benzo + alcohol = fast blackout. Benzo 12 hrs before alcohol = lowered tolerance/ greyout (on an amount that would normally just get me plain ole drunk).
Ya know tho, as my psychs so love to tell me, that alcohol effectively cancels out meds. I don't believe that completely because i still drink and my meds have made me feel relatively fabulous. I'd probably feel fantastic to the nth degree if I didn't drink though.
We are bad bad bad. Hopefully someone out there has some more scientific advice, but I just thought I'd tell you that I avoid my second dose of klonopin if I plan on drinking.
