Zyprexa - any help for the sleepiness

Posted by NikkiT2 on July 19, 2001, at 7:31:17

OK, this med is really helping it seems.. I'm no longer obsessionally suicidal, and my brain even has some wonderful quiet moments!!! It has lifted the underlying dperession I don't think... but I;ll discuss that with pdoc!!

My main problem is the sleepiness that I get off it.. I just want to sleep and sleep and sleep... I take 2.5mg AM, lunchtime, and evening...

Any help here before I sleep my life away (18 hours sleep a "night" is not unusual at the moment)

Nikki xx

That's why God created coffee...you will develop a tolerance to it over time. I once took 20 mg a day and had no drowsniness.

They've started charging for coffee at work, so i refuse to drink it!!! Can't afford decent coffees from Starbucks etc at the mo anyway!!! And coffee is only any good if its a decent one!!

(Oh, and I need it main lined before I wake up, as I simply sleep through allalarms!!!)

I'm in a similar boat - Zyprexa is helping me also - I'm no longer as depressed and my brain also has some some wonderful quiet moments!!!

As for sleepiness, well I NEED Zyprexa (2.5mg/night with 1.0 mg/night of Klonopin) to get to sleep. It does make me sleep longer than I'd like, but not to the extent you described. Also, the "hangover" effect it had after I do wake up has GONE AWAY!!!!!!

In your case, I'm wondering if since your depression and "brain noise" have improved if maybe you could just cut back/reduce the Zyprexa.

For example: first stop taking the morning dose, so you're just taking it at lunchtime and in the evening.

If your depression and "brain noise" do not worsen, cut back further and try just taking Zyprexa at bedtime. This way, hopefully, you will just want to sleep and sleep through the night and into morning (if you don't have to get up for work, the morning won't be a problem).
GOOD LUCK - let me know on here how you do!
