I take 225mg of Effexor XR. I started Wellbutrin SR 100mg today to try to augment the sexual side effects of Effexor. I have been reading old posts and saw that many people experience anxiety, agitation, and irritability. Today I have been tired and have had a headache all day. I am just wondering what the next couple of weeks will bring.
Any opinions would be great!

Woo-boy, you are now taking two rather "activating" meds there, but not to be alarmed - we all react to these things differently so you could do great on this combo!
I had titrated up to 150mg of EffexorXR and the higher I went, the worse I felt (with anxiety, agitation, etc.), so my pdoc had me back down to 75mg, where I'm holding till next appointment, I'm feeling hyper, wired, jittery and edgy from just 75mg! So, I plant taper off and start a different a-d.
I've heard of people taking Wellbutrin to try to augment the sexual side effects of Effexor and SSRI's. But I've also heard and read (and felt it myself for the short time I was on it) that many people experience anxiety, agitation, and irritability on Wellbutrin.
I'd say stick it out for awhile with the Wellbutrin; I would GUESS that your headache might linger another day or two at most, as your body adjusts to the added Wellbutrin, and IF you do feel any increased anxiety, agitation and irritability, you'll KNOW it is the Wellbutrin because you've been tolerating the EffexorXR just fine.
If you don't feel any increased anxiety, etc., then you'll know that you CAN tolerate both Effexor and Wellbutrin, and hopefully the latter will counteract Effexor's sexual side effects.

Probably energy, possibly jitters, 100mg isn't that much so hopefully side-effects will be tolerable for you. Headaches can be from Wellbutrin, tho, I'm very light-sensitive while on it, I wear my sunglasses almost anywhere except home. And I've heard other people say that too, they were light-sensitive on Wellbutrin. But it wasn't a big problem except when I was on 400mg/day.
Give it a chance, it's been a miracle-drug for me! :)

debbie, i've been on wellbutrin for several months now. getting established on it was no picnic. i had intense agitation/irritability for a full month. i just toughed it out. some people can't do that. some people can. it depends on how it is for you. i've done trials on a variety of meds, and by far this was the hardest to get established on. however, i have also done the best for the longest amount of time on wellbutrin. for me it is worth it. if you think it's worth it, then it's in your best interests to give it a good 5-6 weeks to see how you do. the agitation/anger subsided by then for me and i was left with increased energy to accomplish the tasks of life. it has been extremely beneficial. -terra
