Advice on Effexor XR /or Celexa

I recently went to my general doctor because of very violent type mood swings. She prescribed Celexa. I took this for the past two weeks. I went today for a followup. I have seen absolutely no difference. She told me to start taking Effexor XR tonight. How long should I expect results to take?

Also, does anyone recommend a better idea - drug or otherwise? (I have appointments scheduled with a psychologist and psychiatrist but they can't see me until the end of August.)
