Is there any danger in combining Adderall or Dexedrine with something like Klonopin or Xanax? The "upper" and "downer" combination sounds like it might have some large interactions. Or one might cancel out the others desired effects (stim-concentration, wakefulness, alertness dep-aiding anxiety, sedation, etc...). Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

I felt awesome on this combo for 2 months. You
are correct about finding the correct "ratio"
of the tranquilizer and the stimulant, it took
me trial and error to get a good ratio, which
was 2 mg Klonopin morn + 2 mg Klonopin night +
40 mg Adderall in the morning. I would feel dead
tired after getting an awesome nights sleep from
the Klonopin. I then would take the Adderall in
the morning to get me off my ass and productive
at work. By the time I came home the Adderall
wears off and I took my nightly dose of Klonopin
to help me sleep. Seemed to work great....but...
long term this combo is a "trap" due to the
addictive nature of the meds. The klonopin for some has some properties to
smooth out the adderall response and prevent
tolerance buildup to Adderall. But you can't
get something for nothing in this world (at
least I continue to try to), and I grew addicted
to Klonopin. When Klonopin started to crap out
the Adderall went haywire and I had trademark
manic symptoms. My life spiraled out of control.I like the idea of combining with the stim an nmda antagonist
(like memantine in particula).
The ones that could hit the US in the next
few years likely have anxiolytic effects and
help to prevent tolerance to meds like Adderall.
Plus the NMDA antagonist is non-addictive and
generally neuro-protective.
But we shall see if the promise lives up to
hype. The nmda meds are not primarily being studied
for addiction, but the are known to have anti-addiction
and anti-anxiety qualities.A few other meds that look interesting
are Baclofen, which I'm trying to find out more
about, since I see many references to its potential
in psychiatry. This is a non-addictive gaba-ergic
med. Klonopin is an addictive Gabaergic med.Another interesting possibility may
be acamprostate, which is usually used for
alcohol addition/tolerance, but seems potentially
helpful with stims. It is both a gaba-ergic and
nmda antagonist. Again, non-addictive +
not marketed yet in the US. bummer.Clonodine (Catapres) and/or guanfacine (Tenex)
are other alternatives to bezos to work
in conjunction with a stimulant. These meds
can "mediate" (nor)adrenaline. This is
somewhat common practice in the US as far as
I can tell.Finally some anti-convulsants like Lamictal,
Depakote,Neuronton may help too with a stimulant.
The anti-convulsants are non-addictive. Someone
posted success with Neurontin and Adderall
on this news group.I really look forward to the future of
medicines to better target the brain in
a clean non-addictive fashion, and quick
acting to boot.Good luck,
john

No; they can counteract one another's side effects, if anything.

Yes, but usually they are advantageous. (In fact, I can't think of a situation in which they would be a problem.)
In the past, when amphetamines were used as diet pills, there were combination pills that contained a stimulant and a barbiturate (the barb was supposed to relieve the anxiety often caused by the stimulant). They had names like "Dexamyl" (Dexedrine + Amytal) and "Desbutal" (Desoxyn + Nembutal).
