I've been on lithium about a year and a half or 2 yrs; NEVER weight gain. I've been on neurontin about one year or so, still never weight gain. but the last two months I've started gaining lots and lots of weight. I started serzone about a month and a half ago. I'm pretty sure I started gaining a little before starting it. can lithium or neurontin have delayed weight gain?? and serzone certainly isn't supposed to cause it anyways is it? my dr took me off the lithium the other day, he said to quit that or neurontin. lithium helps less so I quit it. but still, it seems like even the last few days I can see I've gained some!!!! I don't know what to do about it. it can't get any worse, it's driving me crazy, esp cause I've always been very very thin. I've gone from a pants size 6 to 12 in about 2 months. I cannot stand it!

Have you noticed a change in your diet at all? Have you eaten more carbs or larger portions. I noticed I was hungrier on certain drugs and had to be very very careful. If the benefits of the drugs outweigh the weight gain, just try to up your workouts and add some weight training to counteract the gains. Keep a food diary, everything you put in your mouth and see if it's at all self-inflicted. It usually is.

I am on Li and Neurontin, and haven't gained any weight so far. Though it's only been a few months...
I did try Serzone about a year ago. Although it claims there is no weight gain with that drug, all I could think about was cake and cookies. And alot of times I couldn't help but give into the cravings. Luckily that med did not agree with me, or I would have put on a good deal of weight!
Maybe it's the Serzone, not the Li or Neurontin?
I agree with Tina's advice to you.
Hang in there

Lithium can depress thyroid function. You might ask your GP about it (or of course, your pdoc). Some of the other symptoms of hypothyroidism is thin dry skin, hair changes, constipation, fatigue, feelings of being uncomfortably cold.
As far as the Serzone goes, it has been reported to cause weight gain. I have heard of few antidepressants that haven't caused some weight gain for most people in the long run. I have been on various dosages of Neurontin over the last couple of years and haven't experienced any weight gain with it. The timing of the Serzone and the weight gain is awfully suspicious.
This is the end of the thread.
