Klonopin - Brand vs. Generic

Posted by Carlos on March 20, 2002, at 12:46:32

No one in my whole town has any Brand name Klonopin, so I had to settle for generic on my first prescrip. I've read that there might be some differences between the two. I just took1 mg about 30min ago, I feel no different.

Carlos, The makers of Klonopin don't make a generic themselves, which is preferable because it's exactly the same.
I get a generic made by Pure Pack, evidentally the largest generic mfg. The pill is light yellow
and has a letter that looks like a p and the #34 on it. It's also scored, the 1 mg is what I'm referring to, so it's easier to split than the incredibly groovy original Klonopin. This one seems as good to me and I usually tell the pharmacist if they don't stock this, I'll go somewhere else.
I've gotten generic Ritalin that was a joke but ended up finding a good one.

More than my 2 bits.

Having taken clonazepam for a long time, this is what I've found:
Purepac generic is excellent and very consistent.
Watson generic is excellent and very consistent.
Teva is very good, very consistent, but seems to be a bit more sedating than Purepac and Watson. Also, seems to cause more intense dreams than the other two.
My experience has been with the 1mg dose.
I currently take 2mg/day just before bed.
Name brand (Roche) Klonopin is extraordinarily consistent and very sedating. In fact, I found it to be too sedating. If I took one in the afternoon (1mg), sometimes I'd nod off into sleep. I prefer the Purepac.
P.S. I think Watson makes the best generics, based on my experience taking their: mirtazapine (Remeron), methylphenidate (Ritalin), and clonazepam (Klonopin).
And I've taken other generics and the name brands in all 3 of these meds.

Watson and Teva feel fully equivalent to brand-name Klonopin.

Eon was so bad I experienced "mini-withdrawal".

My pharmacist says he has no control over which generic they stock, but is happy to order Watson brand (takes 1 day) for me.

2mg./day for 8 yrs.

my experience was similar, watson and teva were fine, eon was a little fishy.

If your insurance covers Wafers, get 'em

For me it's a $30 co-pay, versus a $10 one, but it's worth every penny. Put some in your coat pocket, your bag, not your desk drawer, and enjoy the instant relief. Much faster than tablets.

Melts in your mouth, not in your stomach...

discrete, no water required, and makes compliance a pleasure (I am very bad with complaince on the tablets, but the wafers go anywhere without water so I don't even need to think!)
