Hi Ya'll,
I just found this place today... and it looked like there are interesting and informed people here.. so I'm giving it a try... :O)
I was diagnosed as a Bipolar type 1, with "psychotic features" ( sort of like "facial features", eh ?? LOLOL!).. PTSD.. daily cycler.. a couple of years ago. I did talk therapy for a year and a half.. and went on meds after initial resistance. Started on Depadeath... which I really disliked.. ( Gee! Can you tell ?? LOL!).. and then switched to Neurontin.. which I really liked.. at least on that, I still felt alive !!
Anyways, about 6 weeks or so ago, I went through a pretty hard episode.. and made my plans.. drove off to "do the deed" in a very remote place where I wouldn't be found or "rescued".. But a funny thing happened on the way to the... well.. you know ! LOLOL! I ended up at this very remote beach ( I live on an Island, so that wasn't too hard to do !! LOL!), and went walking.. the beach was so pretty.. no traces of humans.. just pure natural beauty.. and something changed in me. I walked for hours...
Needless to say.. and very obviously, I didn't do the deed.. I came back home.. and made a decision to live my life as *me*.. or die trying. I quit all meds... and shortly after that, quit smoking and my evening drinks, too. All of it "Cold Turkey", on the spot.
Hehehehe.. well.. quitting the meds cold turkey was not such a swift idea, in retrospect ! The withdrawl effects were pretty heavy duty, but I have NO regrets. I feel SO much better "clean" and "clear"..
I figured that I had survived for a couple decades as an unmedicated loon before getting diagnosed... and now, after the couple of years of therapy and education, I know better what is going on, when my cycles spin 'round.. ( Geez! I sound like a washing machine !! LOL ).. I'm "naturally" a very high speed, high energied person.. more hypo than depressive.. and I hallucinate nearly constantly.. I never tried to medicate my "enhancements" away, and I was fortunate to have docs that respected my choices.. and worked with me despite my resistance to medications..
I HAVE noticed some changes in me since I've been off meds. I very much believe that the meds effected my synaptic connections/reactions .. my senses are much more heightened since I've quit. I'm going through my CD collection again.. it all sounds SO different to me now!! ( Won't have to buy any new music for awhile ! LOLOL! ). Parts are so dramaticly different, and spatially distinct as to make me physically jump at times !
Anyways... I hope I don't get jumped all over and beat up for quitting meds. I hope I can be respected for having tried various treatment options, and chosen this one.
And.. I look forward to meeting you all..
Best Wishes,
U&D

Hi Dreamer ;O)
LOLOL! Well.. thanks... whew! I thought the Med Police were after me for a second, there !!Maybe that should be the title to a movie or book or something.. " Escape From ClubMed " LOLOL!
My docs knowing ?? Ha! They set me free a year ago.. I was being treated in a public clinic.. and they have limited funding.. they usually help folks for 6 months.. sort of a MI triage unit.. and get folks stabilized and sent off to other facilities or programs... I guess I "rated", in that despite their limited funding, they "re-upped" me twice before letting me loose on humanity. I had it set up with a public MD clinic that would rewrite meds script.. but there weren't any decent support groups in the area... so.. to make a short answer longer than it needed to be, I don't have any docs at the moment to tell !! I'm a loon on the loose !! LOLOL!!
Other than the increases in my sensory inputs, which I attribute to the meds, I feel great.. ( mostly!! LOL).. I will say, though.. that if I weren't such a self controlling and self disciplined person, these auditory and visual hallucinations would have certainly driven me to the docs, ER, etc.. And if I hadn't had the past decades of experience with them, I'd be posting about being totally nuts right now!! 3-D music... yeah.. no kidding whew!!!
It is all relative, eh ? LOLOL!
Another round on the spin cycle, shall we ?? ;O)
Oh.. yeah.. I'm male...
And... in a worst case scenario... I know what "options" are out there... and I have no illusions ( at least, not in this context !! LOLOL ) or false hope that my life will be wonderful. if *only* I can find that magic mixture of meds... it ain't that easy !! Nor should it be ! ;O)
Thanks for the smiles !! Much aprreciated...;O)

May I now appologize for choosing yourself as a victim of my drivel I'll leave you with one of Dr.Eamers gems of wisdom...Never over fill the soap powder tray in the washing machine or the spin cycle just isn't worth it...If you can work it out tell me , I have no idea.

Hey Dreamer,
Ah yes... A Rebel Without A Clue... colour me James.. ;O)
Neurontin is a great med.. if, like any of these, it works for you. I talked with a bunch of folks over a pretty long period of time who were/are on it, and most liked it a lot. For me, being the control freak that I can be, I liked that it works so fast... and leaves your body so fast. I experienced no noticable side effects from it, and it was adequately sedating so as to tone me down when I got too out there... I varied my dose according to how I felt... took a minimum maintainance dose ( which was pretty minimum ! ), and just took more as I needed it. Kept taking one more, each hour, until I was "tolerable"... LOL!
Hehehe... now I'm taking a different approach ! LOL! Me? "Tolerable" ? To whom? Do I care ? Muuhhaahahahaaaaa !! ;O)
" And a Great Dread came to pass all across the land.... and men ran in fear... women and children hid in the caves of safety.... " LOLOL!
Hmmmm.. I think we'll have to call Kirk Douglas or .. ( Damn! What *is* that NRA guys' name ??? ), to play the part in THIS movie, eh ? LOL!
Smile on, you crazy diamond.... ;O)
U&DPS.. If you want a pretty good FAQ site for Neurontin, lemme know...

Tom Selleck? I have one of his NRA adverts that has the headline "Guns are good for kids..." (followed by some nonsense about how killing animals teaches children values or something).

Hey Chris...
Nice to meet ya...
I was thinking of Charlton Heston... he played one of those Biblical roles... seemed appropriate for the theme of the moment... But, Yikes! That is a pretty scarey reference you make ! Our best buddy Tom always DID align himself with some ... hmmm.. well.. maybe I should stick with the Shape Shifters here... or the folks with webbed hands.. I think I'll be on safer ground !! LOL! I mean, as it is, I'm worried Charlton is gunna strike me down with a bolt of lightening, or something ! How many of those types can I .. Ummm.. make less than happy ?
LOLOL!
Despite our troubles, we can still strive to smile, eh ??
