Just curious, has anybody found that in the 300-450mg range of Effexor XR, you have lost any weight? Is it not supposed to target dopamine at that dose? Please let me know, and/or comment.
Thanx!

Jay,
I've seen a few of your posts about weight.
I don't know of any med that will *make* you lose weight. I am currently taking Dexedrine, which I think used to be considered the "big guns" for weight loss, and haven't lost an ounce.
I think the best strategy is to taper and discontinue all meds that put on weight, then watch what you eat, get some exercise, and be *very* patient. I think it takes some time for the pro-fat changes that these meds make to our metabolisms to reverse. Even then, the weight may come off slowly.
Topamax (sp?) has been reported to cause weight loss, but so were Prozac and Paxil when they first came out, so I'd be skeptical...

Jay, my pdoc--a very experienced med guy--just told me that Topamax is *the* weight loss med in the world!
I can't tolerate it, but thought I'd share this with you. I'm also on high dose Effexor, didn't lose and didn't gain, and Dex, which also is not a weight loss drug for me. I did get skinny on Wellbutrin, but then became allergic to it.
Right now am experimenting with Provigle, and noticed not much interest in food.

Thanks Zo. I have some Topomax, and will give it a whirl, as I am also seeing my doc this week. Just curious, what dose of Effexor are you on?I have heard many mixed reactions to the stimulants. I think it's just a matter of finding one that works for your metabolism and body. Right now, I am using one of the most basic stimulants, caffiene, in pill form, as I don't drink coffee, and very little caffiene containing beverages.
I recall reading a few posters on here mentioning reduced weight with Provigil. If the drug does your mind good, then stick with it, and see what happens. Best of luck...let us know how you make out...and thanks for replying!
