Can someone define this term seratonin turnover? Does this mean anything to do with blocking the reuptake, or just releasing seratonin from the presynaptic cell into the synapse. Most drugs like ssri's block the reuptake causing more seratonin in between the presynapse and postsyaptic cells. Otherwise tiantapine and extacy release seratonin into the synapse. Is the the same as seratonin turnover???

Serotonin turnover involves the entire cycle from mitochondrial synthesis, storage, release, metabolism and diffusion, re-uptake, and metabolism and recycling.
I don't believe Tianeptine atually stimulates the release of serotonin..it does reverse the action of the re-uptake pump, increasing the rate at which serotonin is removed from the synapse, I have heard that Ecstasy (MDMA) uses the re-uptake pump in a similar way, but its actions are different, because MDMA is a substituded amphetamine it releases serotonin, but also acts as a re-uptake inhibitor.
FWIW the closest legal drug to MDMA would be another Phenethylamine like Effexor..but as far as mechanism of action, the legal substituted amphetamine fenfluramine is a serotonin releaser and reuptake inhibitor.
