Lamictal Experiences?

Posted by Peter S. on April 27, 2002, at 19:54:29

Hi all

I have felt consistanly better on lamictal for the last month than I have on any other drug. Other drugs like prozac have caused brief temporary relief (a day or so) and then it's gone like the wind.

I have noticed some slumps on Lamictal (I'm noticing one now) but generally they have resolved with increasing the dosage. I'm up to 150mgs right now. I'm wondering what other people's experiences have been regarding dosage and what is the maximum dosage people are on.

Thanks greatly!

Peter S.

Have been on Lamictal for about a year...the fewest days of depression in 20 years.

Hattree,

What is your current dose of Lamictal? I'm curious about anyone else who would like to share dosage and or experiences.

Thanks,

Peter

Hi Peter,
I was taking 75 mg. Lamictal for several months. However, it wasn't helping much at that level, and I wasn't able to increase the dose due to a lot of bloating and volatility (depression/fatigue/agitation).

I've recently stopped Lamictal altogether, but may start up again -- after getting off of it and falling to pieces, I realize that it was helping me some after all!

Good luck -- it is a good med, in most cases.

I love Lamictal. Been on it for 10 months now. It is the ONLY psych drug to which I've had a convincing response, and I have tried many over the years. 150 mg/day is perfect for me. It gives me the energy to be more active and get that boost from exercise. I also take Wellbutrin SR, but have been on that for years and find it doesn't help except as an adjuctive treatment. I give Lamictal the primary credit for the best mental health I've had in a long time.

I take 100, though I think I felt some relief at as little as 25mg. I admit to monkeying with my dosage in a not very scientific way. Most effective med I have tried in 7 years, and I'm learning that I'm not the only one.

Broke the back of my twenty-year depression/BPII. Added 8 months ago to Effexor-Dex regimen. . . Fantastic. Must go up very slow, to find a tolerable dose. Mine is 250mg.

Good luck,
Zo

Thanks for the responses!

I just upped my does of Lamictal to 225 after a major relapse in the last couple of days. My Pdoc says that he sees a phenomenon where relapses continue to happen until one reaches the correct dose of an antidepressant. I only hope he's right in this case. I'd be curious to know if anyone else has notice this

Peter
