I'm gonna contact my doctor tomorrow about this, but would also like to get some alternative feedback in the meantime.
For the last year and a half I've experienced shortness of breath. Choking, feeling breathless, and feeling like I'm not getting enough air are a few of my symptoms. I notice that aerobic exercise at least 3 times a week causes much of those symptoms to subside, but they can readily come back if I'm not consistent with working out, and even during the periods of time when I feel my breathing is generally okay, I still occasionally feel some shortness of breath, at times.
For the first time, I read the prescription pamphlet provided by my healthcare provider (not the Organon pamphlet) and it said that shortness of breath is a less common side effect that should be reported to your doctor immediately, so right then, I'm beginning to panic because its been almost a year and a half since I first experienced that symptom!
Well, I've been on Remeron for 2 years now. I started in July of 2000 at 30 mg a day and increased to 45 mg a day in August of 2001 and that's dose I'm currently taking. I started experiencing these symptoms in February of 2001, so I don't know for sure if they are a direct result of Remeron.
Any comments...what could this be and is it related to Remeron? I'm not really overweight by the way, so this is quite unusually, especially since I've been heavier at times long before I ever used Remeron and never experienced this then, but I was also much younger too back then.
Remeron has been helping me greatly, but I really hate the feeling of not getting enough air; it doesn't allow me to think as clearly and it causes my head to feel weird (lack of air feeling).

Definitely the best thing you can do is get to your doctor and tell him/her about this!
I do vaguely remember some tightness in my chest when I was taking Remeron...I'd forgotten about it until I read your post...in fact, I seem to remember that I began taking something for "asthma" at the same time...but perhaps it was the Remeron all along! It's difficult for me to remember anything about the Remeron except for the fact that I "suddenly" gained over 20 lbs in a couple of months.... BTW, it did work very well as an AD, but only for about 8-10 wks. Of course, it's difficult to separate out whether it stopped working or whether the weight gain totally freaked me out....
At any rate, shortness of breath is certainly best addressed by your doc.
Best wishes,

I am currently taking Remeron and like you was experiencing shortness of breath that seemed to subside with activity. I was given Remeron 5 years ago and took it for a year (15 mg) along with 30mg of Prozac. I discontinued Remeron for weight gain reasons but no breathing problems, and stayed with Prozac.
About two months ago, I relapsed and my doctor put me back on Remeron, but this time, 30mg to minimize the weight gain side effects. The shortness of breath has been unbearable at times.
When I lie down, I have to sit up to catch my breath. He also added topamax to sort of speed things up, but the shortness of breath got worst.
I haven't called my doctor about this, but I don't remember having this problem the first time around with 15mg of Remeron, so I lowered my dosage. After doing this, my breathing has gotten much better.
If you call your doctor about this let me know what he says and I will keep you posted of what mine says when I see him in two weeks.Deli;)

I have had this same thing happen when I took Adderall and higher doses of Zoloft. My pdoc says it's bad news, heart related, and took me off the Adderall ASAP. Said I could go into cardiac arrest. I would call your doctor ASAP.

Some time ago, the shortness of breath was really unbearable for me too...I would have to get up while sleeping to get it under control.
What worries me more is that I've been experiencing chest (heart?) spasms too, the last few months. It happens right when I'm about to fall asleep. It is an electric shock feeling and large pump in my chest for a second and then my body jolts.
