I have been suffering from GAD (genarilzed anxiety disrorder) with occasional depression for 5 years. It seems GAD is uncommon, as it is rare that I hear anyone else talking about it.
I have had moderate results with CBT. I have also had been taking 75mg Effexor XR for 2 months with mixed results. The GAD has decreased but I am always tired and feel "wirery" at times. Is there anyone else with GAD and what results have you had with meds and/or CBT.

Jeffro,
GAD is actually quite common, but you don't hear it mentioned a lot here because most people have anxiety in addition to other problems. The SSRI's are "supposed" to be good for anxiety, but none of them were that great for me. You'll find alot of people find relief with benzos, but that's a whole different controversy. Just do a search using "favorite anxiety" and you'll come up with some of the things that have worked for others.

That isn't how my anxiety was described, but I'd like to tell you how Celexa (SSRI) affected my anxiety.
The best way to describe it is this: before Celexa, there was always an anxiousness; an alertness to everything that was happening & a feeling that I had to be aware of & take care of everything & everybody. Almost immediately, on Celexa, that anxiety disappeared & it was the difference between listening to a radio station where there's STATIC all the time along with the music or talking. With Celexa, the static is gone. I still have a FULL RANGE of feelings & emotions, but that horrible anxiety is gone.

If you don't mind my asking, what is your Celexa dosage?

I have been taking 20mg celexa for 1 week and I feel good. I tappered off Effexor XR slowly (1/2 dosage reduction every 5 days) and had very little withdraw symptoms.

I came off Zyprexa very slowely for about 3.5 months. Slowely
as it came out of my system, my anxiety went up! When I was fully
off the med anx was so high I had to go back on it. Slowely up now
to half of what I was taking befor, almost 4 years. I just read an
article on psycosis-relaps. Which is probaly what I'm geting all my
anxiety from.I was taking Celexa 40's when off the Zyprexa. I don't think It was
getting rid of my anxiety, actualy I it probaly didn't. Does it work
for yours?I'd realy like to find a way off this Zyprexa. Any ideas, have you
taken Zyprexa?

I haven't tried Zyprexa, but Celexa works ok for me. Not great results, but depression/anxiety is less. Effexor works well for many people, I have also heard about Gabatril (sp.). I know it can be extremely frustrating switching or trying different meds. I try to allow 2 or 3 months for full effect to kick in. Good luck!
