I currently take probally 5mg or less of remeron each night to help me sleep. I am on no other anti depressant... cant deal with the side effects. Anyways, I suffer from anxiety/panic disorder and I am just wondering if 5mg of Remeron is effective in any way?? I have the 30mg Soltabs and i just break a piece off of it each night. I recently started a job that I really like... and i didnt like the way i felt on higher doses. When i have anxiety attacks I also take little pieces just to knock me out... I always feel better when i wake up. Im getting insurance in a month or so and when i get to a doctor i will ask him to prescribe me something like Klonopin or Ativan... whatever. Dont know yet but in the meantime... realistically... are there any benefits at all from 5mg of remeron or is the only thing ill get out of it is SLEEP? I love remeron... its the ONLY thing that puts me to sleep at night! **Cynthia**

Some people break the 15 mg pills in half to use as a sleeping pill (7.5 mg), but the only effective doses for depression are 15-60 mg/day (the higher the dose the less the sedation).
Taking less than 15 mg means the Remeron is basically only working as a strong anti-histamine (sleeping pill) without any anti-depressant effects. If you are depressed why not take 15 mg or the 30 mg you were prescribed?- it will still help you sleep at 30 mg and will have a stronger anti-depressant effect.

... so, the higher dose will allow higher levels of norepinephrine to overpower the effects its antihistamine properties.

5 mg Remeron is a piddly dose that will never fix anybody's problem. Increase the dosage to 15 mg and get a real response. Also remember to totally cut out all booze. All recreational drugs if you do those (not saying you do). Many rec drugs make these problems worse. Depressant drugs like booze, opiate painkillers (percocet/vicodine) and pot make you more depressed. Stimulant drugs like cocaine and speed can make panic attacks and anxiety worse, leading to paranoia even.Old School

1)when you take the dose down, I know it increases the sedative effect but does it increase or decrease the tendency to be constipating.
2)When I take Benedryl, I get a paradoxical effect, ie. it doesn't make me sedated, it makes me hyper. Anyone have a theory on that?
3)Anyone getting myoclonus with remeron and how do they deal with it? I have tried magnesium (it worked a little), valerian (butthe pharmacists say that you shouldn't use valerian and antidepressents together. I find this curious considering valerian's safety record. Surely it has be safer than benzo's!!
Thanks
