Posted by Festus on November 8, 2002, at 23:43:46

I saw on CNN where at this years annual meeting that they,d brought in clinical study results from the past year. The topics had to do with the order of the top 20 drugs for patients to come off of or detox from.Paxil was voted #1 and Effexor came in at #2.The only other drugs I caught wind of were valium and Soma(#12 and #8).Has anyone else seen the other results?

This is coming from an organization that thinks flouridated water is toxic at any dose.

And don't forget about avoiding french fries, since those are fried, so you'll get cancer...

Hi,
Saw your note about WHO's worst-rated drugs. I suggest you go to the following website address:
http://socialaudit.org.uk/4390EU61.htm and you'll see a report from the Uppsala Monitoring Centre, entitled "European perspectives on withdrawal and dependence associated with SSRI antidepressants" It includes a chart that would probably answer your questions. Paroxetine is listed as No. 1, followed by Venlafaxine (Effexor). This chart is equally useful for those who take benzos.
Check it out.

Saw this chart a couple of weeks ago I think...

One thing though, its not done by percentage of how much its prescribed.. so Paxil with the highest numbers of reports, but it also states Paxil is the most prescribed med.
Ot doesn't actually really tell us much becuase of that.

<<These data will come as no surprise to anyone familiar with what many users have been saying on this and other websites, for several years. Enough people are reporting they get into extreme difficulties when they try to stop taking SSRI antidepressants to be certain of the risk that many more users are taking them basically because they can't stop>>

I am a living example of SSRI experiment. I don't think I am any longer in the need of Prozac, but whenever I withdraw, it is getting dark and dark over me. No other antidepressants seem to work now except SSRIs. I have recently tried wellbutrin without any benefit at all. Tried the old faithful imipramine for a while, but with no results. I think this is definitely an indication of addiction.

I realize Paxil withdrawl is harsh, and certainly it is.

But as far as the WHO's authority stands in trying to make comparisons between other pharma drugs, well, they just don't stand very tall there. Methadone is easier to detox from than Paxil? I'm a bit skeptical. Is anyone on this board someone who withdrew from both Paxil and Methadone willing to back that one up?

Let's remember, the WHO STILL thinks that flouridated water in the U.S. is toxic at the amount of 2 liters.

So if you live in an area where the water's flouridated, drink two liters of that water, and the WHO thinks you've ingested a toxic amount of flouridated water (not 100% flouride, flouridated water).

They're great to have around, but sometimes they get a little too passionate about certain subjects and like to let everyone think they privately know things most doctors don't recgonize to exist...

Again, I'm not saying Paxil is easy to withdraw from, but I'm skeptical about saying it's harder to do so than methadone just because the WHO said so, since I've never had to detox from methadone before.
