Hi,
There are some things I'm confused about regarding medications for depression. Any clarification would be greatly appreciated.1)I tried an SSRI (Paxil) for 8 weeks and I tolerated it fine side-effects-wise but it didn't help my depression. Is there any point in trying other SSRI's now? Might others work even though this one has failed and they all have similar mechanisms?
2)Is Lamictal ever effective as a primary antidepressant for very severe agitated depression, or is it more of a mild mood stabilizer?
3)At what point are people labelled "treatment resistant"? I heard that ECT is effective 60-70% of the time for treatment resistant people, but I don't know whether that means people who've tried everything or just one or two things.
Thanks in advance,
Phoebes

Also, if one med doesn't work (say, Paxil), is it best to stop taking the one that didn't work and try a new one (say, Remeron), or is it best to add the new one to the non-working on to try to get some kind of synergystic (sp) effect?
Thanks, Phoebes

I've not done this myself, Phoebes,
but i know it is common practice by
my friend's doctor, and has been done
a few times; i hope you are getting some
help on the schedule and not just doing
it yourself though;Squiggles
