To begin I have outlined what I take, when and why.
I have some questions about whether L-tyrosine
can override effexor's positive effects. I apologise in advance for the length of this post
and trust you'll see that this was necessary
in order to convey my situation in sufficient
detail.
TREATMENT: L-tyrosine

Seassonal affective disorderNow here’s the story. My use of L-tyrosine began four days ago. What motivated this action was a desire to lower my dosage of dexedrine in the hopes of alleviating the effecs of O.C.D. This
is one of enemies in terms of productivity (it sabotages my academic work, subtly fuelling insatiable perfectionist urges). So far, L-tyrosine has boosted my normally depressed stamina up to an acceptable level.
The O.C.D. has noticeably lessened. (Now when I sit down to work I do so with reasonable and fairly modest expectations). This is, without a doubt, a great good
blessing. On the negative side: L-tyrosine is (probably) overriding the ‘anti-overfocus’ effects of Effexor. Frequently during the L-tyrosine trial
my mind has become stuck fixating on various thought patterns (sometimes productive, other times negative) - just as it allways did before
my A.D.H.D treatment commenced in January 2002.When overfocused ‘productively’ I have displayed
better focus for school work than I ever thought I could muster in the midst of S.A.D. seasson
(i.e. seassonal affective disorder) Still, in
terms of costs versus benefits of treatment
with L-tyrosine I am not profiting from using
L-tyrosine yet. My mind has been ongoingly disturbed by ‘surface anxiety’ (i.e. anxiety about details, not involving depression). In his book ‘Healing A.D.D’, Dr. Amen states that people who are battling both ADHD and Overfocus ADD (aka O.C.D) should not be treated with L-tyrosine alone because this might induce the very kinds of problems I am having.
It is difficult right now for me to put my finger on the right remedy for this problem. When increasing my intake of Effexor was tried some months ago (for a different reason) the result was increased fatigue.
I should also report that I my body is highly sensitive to pharmaceuticals. Often a dosage lower than the ‘starting dose’ has been used to successfully treat me (notice I need to take on 28 mg of Effexor). I am wondering whether that my hypersensitivity can carry over to the realm of natural remedies. If so, might it make sense for me to halve the dosage of L-tyrosine to 250 mgs?
Finally, I’d be grateful for any suggestions you may have for me in regards to my dosage setup (outlined in the chart at the top of the post). It is gradually dawning on me that timing of dosages plays a not insignificant role in determining the degree of benefit that one will derive from their use.
Many thanks,
To life!

In reply to L-tyrosine blocks Effexor's effects (I'm confused, posted by Leor on December 2, 2002, at 1:13:43
Tabitha
I'm just wondering if it would be possible to attach this post to thread just above that was also posted by LEOR called "Taking DL-Penylalanine and L-tyrosine at once"
I don't know if it was LEOR's intention to have 2 separate threads but I would personally find it easier to follow any replies and to collate the information on this topic (which I find very interesting and relevant to myself) if it was all contained in one thread.
I hope that LEOR and others would agree?
thanks

This is the end of the thread.
