Aripiprazole and anxiety

Posted by temoigneur on December 3, 2002, at 20:33:29

Hi, I've been reading about some of the novel anxiolytics, and many reports suggest that selective antagonism of certain 5HT receptors, could produce a reduction in anxiety symptoms. It seems in addition to having a dopamine, regulating mechanism, aripiprazole also works on some of these receptors, I know that the drug has just come out, but I was wondering if anyone knew of anxiety symptoms being helped by this agent.
Thanks

Ben

Um, like most of the stuff you guys suggest as an anti-anxiety agent that's new (and which i never heard of), this sucker is an anti-psychotic. I swear, it's like you guys are afraid to say that word, because I always have to spell it out.

Anyway, antipsychotics go to the dopamine-- not a good thing if you can avoid it. By going to the dopamine, I mean like rewiring your frontal lobes with wads of glue. Nothing cute or hi-tech about it, I don't care how "new" or "novel" it is. If you ain't psychotic, pop a valium and be happy you can avoid these things.
