I notice most of the board talk was about Celexa to Lexapro. Maybe my pdoc was in the dark ages, but I was still on prozac (up to 60mg once a day)and pdoc offered samples of Lex. I think I have died and gone to heaven! I take ritalin also for ADD, and the combo is fantastic. I redid my living room, did my overdue taxes, wrapped gifts for shelter women and happily attended holiday stuff. If you're on Prozac, get out of the 20th century!

I am also thinking of switiching from 20 mg Prozac to Lexapro 10 mg. can anyone else share their experience switching. I have taken prozac for five years and although it works well for me, i really can't stand the impact on my libido.
thanks

sirrah,
I was never on Prozac but a close 'cousin, Effexor, for about six months. I switched over from Celexa about two months ago(after 3 years on celexa) to Lexapro and found that my depression had lifted some. Mostly I do not have the night sweats or delays in labido response.
Like any medication, sirrah, it works well for a while.. for some it works for years.. and then your body or mind decided that its needs are not being met by the current med and it needs a different combo. I explain it to my patients that its like the differences we all go through in our life cycle..childhood, adolsence, young adulthood, mature adhulthood and old age. all these stages are more gradual and for most of us our minds and bodys have time to get used to the changes. Illness, esp chronic illnesses, come on and invade and change our life cycles. our job is to learn how to make our lives as good as we can with in whatever boundaries we have to face...

I have a lesser degree of sexual side effects on Lexapro than I did when on either Prozac or Celexa. But I still have some degree of sexual side effects.
Lexapro has a shorter half life than Prozac. Therefore, if I have sex in the morning before taking Lexapro, my sexual side effects are less since it's been 24 hours since I took my last dose. This timing will not work with Prozac.
But anyway, you have a tough decision to make since Prozac is working for your depression. I guess you could try Lexapro for a few months and then switch back to Prozac if it doesn't work out.

I also just switched after years of Prozac use. Prozac worked well for me but I couldnt stand the sexual side effects. It's too soon to tell how the Lexapro is working...
I found that Buspar decreased the sexual side effects of Prozac but I hated the idea of taking 2 meds.
What are other's experiences switching to Lexapro?

It is still too soon for me to feel the positive effects of Lex, but so far I find the sexual side effects are the same as Prozac. I can achieve orgasm with some work.
