I just has shoulder surgery on Dec. 30 and was given a nerve block plus general anesthesia. Previous to that I has been taking 100 mg of Zoloft per day plus neurontin as a stabilizer. I also take clonozapam for anxiety as needed. I was given Tylenol with codeine for pain. I've since been living in a twilight zone. I've cut back on the tylenol as I was thinking it would be the codeine that has been making me feel so detached. It's almost like the feeling of detachment I get during a panic attack. Very uncomfortable. However, I'm still feeling very mentally slowed down and strange. Could I still be having some after effects from the general anthesthia? It should have worn off by now. I only missed one dose of Zoloft but have cut down on the neurontin. Not sure what to do. Has anyone else had problems like this after surgery?

Justherself,
I dont know if you have been to your surgeon for your post surgical f/u but I would call at least your primary MD and ask about the med combo you are now taking.( Esp sinced he is probably most familiar with your psych med regime success.)
Ask if Extra Strength Tylenol would be effective enough for your pain control. These could be taken every 6 hours if needed and for many people provide just as much pain control as the scheduled drug Tyl #3 with codeine.
ES Tyneol can often be taken without compromising the psych drugs that have helped you to maintain your mental health staus prior to your surgery. Also the use of warm towels (like one min in
the microwave) applied as often as needed
will often also help with pain control.Just a thought..Hope you feel better soon.

Especially if you had general anesthesia, the results can persist for a week or more, so, no, you're not wrong about it. I have even read some reports (don't know if it's the exception or the rule) that in those who are sensitive to neurotransmitter disruption (I assume you are or you probably wouldn't be on your existing med regimen) it can have even longer-term effects.
Hang in there, hopefully you will feel better soon.
