I had to go back on the Lamictal! I saw the nurse at my Dr.'s office and she talked me into going back on it. I have to admit I did great on it(better than I have in 18 months) but it caused acne and weight gain. I quit it about a month and a half ago on my own. I don't really know what to do. I love how good I feel on it but Im really picky about my appearance and can't stand those side-effects. Do you know of another drug really similar to Lamictal? Can I take Topamax and Lamictal at the same time?? EGGY

Hi EGGY, What dose of Lamictal were you on? I take it now after stopping it a year ago, and 2 weeks ago went back on it. How are you feeling (emotionally) off of Lamictal? I'm really picky about my appearance too and can't stand those side-effects. I was going to try Topomax (I have a little weight to lose) and weight loss is one of the good side effects of Toppomax-I had a friend who lost almost 100 Lbs on it.
I'm going to check something for you about taking the 2 together. Please get back to me:-)

I'm gonna tell my doc that I agree I should have never quit the Lamictal. But the weight gain is not a side effect that I will accept. Then I'm going to give him the pouty look and say "I'll stay on the Lamictal if you let me take Topomax". I lose so much weight on Topomax. I just love the stuff. If he says "no" then I'll just take what Topomax I have left then ask him again later. He May not remember me asking before. I know this is kinda "not right" but I'm gonna do it anyway. (he said before that I can't take Topomax with lamictal, but I am now with no side effects...he just doesn't know it!)
I don't advise playing pharmacy it has really screwed me up lots of times. Been locked up in a psych ward for it! I'll probably regret it this time too.

Hey EGGY SOunds good to me:-) LOL I would do it. I've done it too, and with ok success. But I am saying here that whatever works for you and keep asking your pdoc! Dang I never said that "Weight gain is a side effect I will not accept"-shows ya how assertive I am. MAN! Did your doc say no to both? and what were his reasons anyway?

Well I am on Lexapro, Vistaril, Seroquel,Ativan and just started the Lamictal again. I was already taking the Topomax but he didn't know it. I remember him saying the first time I started on the Lamictal that I had to go off the Topomax. So I don't want to take it if there really is a drug interaction of some kind. I see him on the 25th and I am going to continue the Topomax until I see him...and hopefully after I see him. I also went off my Ambien because it was eating up my esophogus. So now I am taking Restoril again. Boy he might just kill me!! I gotta quit this self medicating. But I got sleep dont I??? My husband is going with me to the Pdoc this next time and oh boy is the shit gonna hit the fan. I told my husband the doc told me to take the restoril and the Topomax. Eggys in troooouble.

Oh EGGY.......... Been there done that. Try not to do it, but if you chose to, PLEASE BE CAREFUL. I am great at self-medicating and I finally learned-the hard way NOT TO.
Please please be careful k?
I just care, will you keep me posted please?

It's good to hear that someone else noticed acne on Lamictal. The doctor said she hadn't heard of it causing acne. Otherwise, I would probably still be on it.

This is weird, cuz I started Lamictal 2 weeks ago and I am noticing a few new pimples-which I very rarely get. I wonder if the 2 are related and what causes it?? I would like to find out.
