My psychiatarist this am reported on attending meeting at Stanford and is really excited about abilify. I've been with this dr for seven years now and have gone through a wide sprectrum of drugs for depression/anxiety/borderline personality including paxil (60 mg), with ativan (2) and trazadone (50mg) .... switched recently to effexor still with ativan and trazadone.
Doing much better, finally, awake, motivated, more centered,;more energy but still struggling with mania, addictions to nicotene (which resurfaced after 15 years off I belive as a result of ativan use) ... moved some wellbutrin into cocktail in november but am now down to very low dose because it reactivated my cortisol overactivity ....
so, with all i've been reading in earlier posts on abilify I AM NOW very frightened about starting. She said its so new for this treatment (ie anxiety, depression) that dosages are uncertain so I am to start with 5 mgs.
The side effects I am reading about have me really frightened. I'm hoping to be able to overcom emy manias, my sugar cravings and nicotene cravings and be more level....
any feed back would sure be appreciated.
I would also appreciate any feedback regarding memory loss and long term use of meds .... and can this be recovered?

Boatsie- I don't have any news on abilify for you but I'm thinking about starting it too. It was recommended to me by a psychopharmacologist. I would be taking it to replace risperdal which made me gain 60 pounds and has really given me concentration problems. I too am afraid to start it as I recently tried to switch to geodon and had a really bad experience. My mom is dying of cancer right now and I don't know if it's really a good time to switch meds. I too noticed an marked increase in my nicotine use after I started thye combination of drugs I'm on right now (celexa and risperdal). I'll be very interested to hear what people say.

Yikes. Know what you meanabout fear of chaning meds. it might not be a good time for you. My psy was so excited.... I am just so 'almost there' .... i've been through so many med changes ... they are all so frightening, destablilizign. And the weight gain. Sixty pounds!!! I probably have gained about 30 from he paxil and the trazadone. i am finallly starting to eat right and have energy /motivationto exercise. the postings i read avbaout insomnia, involuntary body movem;ents, etc. make me really frightened. I am sorry about your mom. Really doesn't sound like a good idea right now for you. I'll p robably give it a go. but at only 5 mgs a day AND keeping up my ativan. thinking abaout those beta blockers, the last thing I want is to worry about my heart as well
