I've been reading up on different avenues of depression research (drugs outside the monoamine affective families), and have been interested in memantine, a drug used to treat dementia via glutamate antagonism. Since memory problems have been a major problem for me, it seemed of interest.
Anyway, the government is evidently planning a trial of memantine's efficacy as an antidepressant. If you live in the Maryland area, it might be worth a try...

Isn't Lamictal a glutamate antagonist?
Yeah, I was also very interested about getting away from the monoamine drugs since none of them seemed to be doing anything for me (with the exception of Parnate, which I just started so it's too early to tell).

Partly, which is mentioned in the study summary as evidence for a glutamate theory of depression (since Lamictal has AD properties).

Have you tried Lamictal?

No, but I'm certainly curious. My PCP will only deal in low dose SSRIs (which actually seem to make some things worse), though I finally have an appointment with a real pdoc, so maybe some day.
This is the end of the thread.
