Has anyone heard how Elizabeth (the buprenorphine success from England) is doing. I'm hoping that the buprenorphine cured her and that she doesn't need this board anymore...although I *do* miss her pharmacological knowledge and imfomative input. I just realized that I hadn't seen a post from her in ages. I hope she's moved on to living a depression free life!!
I haven't seen a buprenorphine discussion here in some time. It seemed promising for some people. I'm very dissapointed that it was changed from a schedule-V to a schedule-III medication. I imagine this will make it *much* more difficult for depression sufferers to convince their pdocs to try it. I (the perennial conspiracy theorist) believe the schedule change had less to do with the abuse potential of the drug, and more to do with its recent approval as a treatment for opiate addicts. When it comes to treating addicts, the government likes to have a firm grip on the attending physician's privates.
Did I mention I'm a perennial cynic as well?

Hello MB,
I have often wondered about Elizabeth. I asked about her on this board a few months ago, and someone said that she might be in medical school. If that's the case, I'm sure she's much too busy to spend time on Internet message boards.

I don't think Elizabeth was from England. I might be wrong, but I thought she was from the U.S. If you're looking for more high caliber pharmacologic knowledge and informative input, check out jrbecker's posts on this board. I always learn something new from jrbecker's posts. We are very lucky to have him here.

She posted here just a few months ago (in April maybe) asking about enrolling in a trial for something. I do not believe she was on bup anymore. As someone else said, she is not English.
I'll try to dig up the post when I get a chance.

The second post seems to be her style.
The first post she never answered. I wonder if she is trying to be cryptic. Moreover, I wonder if she knows that she has gained near legendary status among anyone doing research on the internet on treatment resistant depression. She has so many archived messages on the subject. I almost feel bad that I never got to ask her any questions--she was before my time.

Hmmm. . . I don't know, Jack. That doesn't sound like the Elizabeth who was here in the past. I think the Elizabeth we're referring to would definitely know what HIPPA stands for, and she would probably pick up her own medications at the pharmacy. The writing style is different, too.

But her signature is the same (-Elizabeth, but then again, she used to use a lower-case "e"). I do not think she would necessarily know what HIPPA stands for, and no reason she would personally pick up her pharmaceuticals. I thought it was her because I remember her often talking about hospitalizing herself when she took herself off drugs.
The real question is could someone else take her name. I do not think that is possible. Once you get a name on this board, it is yours for life. That's what I thought. I think it was her.

The following post from Dr. Bob confirms that those posts from April were Elizabeth.
I asked Dr. Bob on PB admin the following:
"Does once someone get a post name, is it theirs forever?
Dr Bob answers:
"That's the way it works now, anyway. So it doesn't get even more confusing, who's who..."
So, the Elizabeth who posted in April is the Elizabeth from days of old. . . . I don't know why this interests me so much but I have read so many of her posts both on Dr. Bob and usenet that I feel like I kinda know her. Moreover, I found it weird that she abruptly stopped posting in mid 2002, not to be heard from until a few posts in April, after which she disappears and does not answer one poster's direct question if she is the famous elizabeth?

I don't blame her for being secretive or "cryptic" on the internet. I remember years ago on A.S.D.M. (Usenet), a couple of really bizzare and caustic trolls ("A. Chimlewsky" and "Flight of the Phoenix") really harrassed her...it got creepy, there were death threats and sexual verbal abuse. With what they were saying, I was always surprised that the FBI didn't do something about it. I mean, it got *weird*. I think she stopped using her last name around the time it started, but these trolls knew what it was, and it must have been really freaky for her. I got into "debates" a couple of times with these guys, but their scathing diatribes were so hebephrenic, that one couldn't get anywhere with them. I couldn't take it anymore, A.S.D.M. was bacically ruined by these guys...I chose the enforced civility of this board over the off-task anarchy on A.S.D.M. There were no longer informative discussions about medications, just endless fights between these trolls and "LostBoyinNC" who never really got anywhere with these disturbed posters, either. I think Elizabeth moved over here around the same time I did...maybe some time before. I don't know. Those were strange times.
Elizabeth, if you're reading this, sorry about talking about you like a you are a famous icon...but, in this small, electronic microculture, you kinda are famous.

Hi. Thanks for the information. Well, I hope that her absence from PB is a sign of health.
This is the end of the thread.
