It's an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor. I have heard that there are experiments with similar substances for depression.

It's been approved for Alzheimer's disease. I tried it for depression without much success but it makes sense for others to try it.

I was taking so many other medications that I can't even remember them all. The Aricept was something of an afterthought as the doc thought it might help with some of the cognitive problems I was having due to the other meds. I didn't take it long so i can't pass any judgement on it. One funny thing though, since it's only approved for Alzheimer's disease unless your pretty old, you can get some strange looks at the pharmacy when you pick it up.

Yes, a pDoc prescribed it for me.

No, not Aricept, but EXELON and REMINYL (galantamine). Exelon is quite depressiogenic for me. But Reminyl works a little bit for depression and cognitive performance for me (it is the only one, as far as I know, that also stimulates the acethylcholine-system; have a look at pubmed).
I sometimes use Reminyl to get relief from central anticholinergic symptoms I sometimes get, like the ones from a recent Ritalin tryout. The anticholinergic rebound is pretty ugly for me. Reminyl blew them away within a hour. Maybe this revealed some information....

I recently found out, that Galantamine is also a potent vasodilator and effetive for vascular dementia. Ritalin is known to be a potent vasoconstrictor. hmm, so it might be a vascular problem I have. picamilone will bring light into this.. (this would explain A LOT)

For a awhile I was taking an older anti-psychotic for a breather...I mean a pause in my irritable depression. Reminyl was wonderful to get rid of side-effects and I think it helped make life a little better. It works on nicotine receptors, too.
This is the end of the thread.
