Effexor is not my wonder drug after all.

Posted by waterlily on July 28, 2003, at 21:39:28

I am going to start tapering off Effexor tomorrow. It was so good after the initial nasty side effects went away. I had energy, I had libido, I had my sense of humor back, I was happy and relaxed. The only problem was that I had to take Ativan to get to sleep at night. It worked well for me for a month or two, but for the past few months I've been tired all day. I have no energy and no desire to do anything. I do what I have to do but that's it. My husband says that I toss and turn so much at night that I get more exercise when I'm asleep than when I'm awake. I called my pdoc today and he told me to go to 75 mg for a week (I'm on 150mg right now). After the week on 75, then nothing. I think I'm going to take it a little more slowly based on what I have read here about how others do going off of Effexor. Wish me luck!

I have heard from many sources that you should take Prozac while weaning off of Effexor. You will minimize the withdrawal symptoms. Ask your pdoc about that.

Good luck waterlily,
I wanted to ignore this post because I avoid conflict. I avoid worrying about things by not thinking about it. I'm worried about what's my next step if Effexor doesn't work out for me. Then I decided that it would be really helpful for me to know how you dealt with this issue. Since I may be following in your footsteps.

All this boils down to "Please keep us posted on what you do and how it turns out."
Good Luck and God Bless!

I've been on about 100 mg for a few days and am doing okay so far. I'm hoping that the Wellbutrin that I'm still on will cushion the withdrawal effects from Effexor.
