hey, my pdoc appointment is fast approaching and i've gotten alot of help with what to ask the doc about...im just not sure he'll give me klonipin, and definitly no xanax...however i've been reading good things about effexor. can that help with social anxiety and awkwardness or just generalized anxiety???

of course, now as i wrote that, i read a million bad things about effexor. fact of the matter is i just dont know...i think i need something calming like klonipin or xanax, i just dont know if he'll prescribe that. suggestions?

If you would like to try a benzodiazepine, do some through research, identify why you think a particular med would help, how you think it would help, etc. and go to your doctor with this research.
Tell him this is what you want to do and why. Be logical and reasonable.
If he says no, make him give you good, concrete reasons (and let us know what they are).
Regarding your previous post, Effexor is indicated for both social and generalized anxiety. It can be a very good medicine for some. I was on it for about a year. Could be worth a try.

effexor has worked really well for my anxiety. my pdoc augmented it with lamictal to help with my cycling but the effexor seems to help me not implode under most circumstances.
talking to your pdoc about the different meds is a good thing for both of you. you should be as educated as possible to work *with* your pdoc.
