My doc is starting me back on nardil [I'm bipolar II, but the depression has gotten so bad that we're concentrating on getting down off the ledge. I've taken nardil before and have actually enjoyed the dietary restrictions, but I have a question about other drugs. Recently I was in a car wreck, and re-hurt my tailbone. [if you've ever hurt your tailbone, you know] My HMO doc gave me samples of ultracet, but by the time I got home, there was frantic message about not taking it with the nardil. I asked him what I could take and he said he didn't know.
So my question is... does anyone out there know of a good painkiller that won't mess around with the nardil.

I was given strong painkillers like Dilauded. Then send home with Percocet and Vicodin. No interactions what so ever. The Docs even knew I was on Nardil and I asked them about interactions but they said not to worry. I'm on 90 mg Nardil.

Oh good vicodin does work. That'll be a good last resort [vicodin make my hands feel like canned hams]. I'm really hoping to something like ultracet, which combines tramadol and acetaminophen. Thanks

Hey do NOT take ultracet or tramadol. Tramadol has serotonin and norepinephrine (or at least one) reuptake inhibiting properties in addition to the opioid effect. It would be very dangerous to combine with Nardil. So is buprenorphine and Demerol.
But codeine, hydrocodone, and oxycodone are all fine. So yes, Vicodin and Percocet are fine. i even had 20mg broken up Oxycontin (oxycodone i believe [?]) while i've been on Nardil and nothing bad happened (but oh my gosh did it relieve my [mental] pain, winkwink). i've heard a broken tailbone kills. Hope you can find something to help and you feel better soon.> Oh good vicodin does work. That'll be a good last resort [vicodin make my hands feel like canned hams]. from my own awful toxic reaction from parnate after taking a diarrhea med and/or an otc weak codeine med that the pharmacist assured me were ok (& from all the literature they should have been); I suggest you tread very carefully. Maybe whatever your doc prescribes perhaps take 1/2 the prescribed dose & if you arent a vomiting & hallucinating mess after a couple of hours you should be ok to go. If you start experiencing mild hallucinations like patterns on walls etc. STOP taking the painkillers & call your doc!! Please!
Im not trying to scare you but just beware that maois can be a little unpredictable when mixed with other psychoactive drugs. Before any maoi fans jump on me - parnate was great but this happened to me on it. It took about 5 weeks to recover fully. It took about 1 week before I could locate the bathroom in my house without checking every room for it.
This is the end of the thread.
