Can Lamictal excacerbate depression??

Posted by Jackd on November 24, 2003, at 13:23:23

Well I know that Lamictal is touted as a great bipolar med with "antidepressant" effects, but is it possible that it can actually slow you down to much to the point of depression? I'm on about 300mg, and now that I think about it I THINK i felt better before it.

Jackd,

I have had nothing but good things to say about lamictal. I started at 25mg and 2 months later I am on 300 mg and I am depression free. However I am taking 100mg prozac and 60mg remeron in addition to the lamictal.

Sorry to hear that you are feeling worse taking 300mg lamictal. What works for one person may or may not work for another. All I can say is stick it out a bit longer and if you are not taking another A/D already, ask your pdoc to prescribe either zoloft or prozac as the lamictal appears to intensify the A/D effectiveness of zoloft or prozac. Hang in there.

Hello. I'm bipolar and was taking lamictal as a mood stabiliser. I got up to 200 mg and was more depressed than ever. At first I thought I was imagining it, but after I went off it, things improved.
