Day 10 Excerpt from my Klonopin Diary...WOW!

Posted by mrgeek on February 19, 2004, at 22:10:19

I had just the most amazing day socially that I've had in my entire life. And for those of you without SAD, it may not seem like a big deal...but to those of you who do suffer...maybe this will offer you some kind of hope. I have been happier today than I have been in over 8 years and I can't get over it. The funny thing is the reason why i'm happy--simply because I can interact with other people in a normal manner. It's absoltely amazing to see just how anxiety spawns depression. Anyway...heres the excerpt:

Day 10
Location: Mall/Haircut/Clothing Store/Customer's House
First Dose: 9:30AM
Dosage: .75mg
Notes: WOW! WOW! WOW! I was a different person today. I had 4, and yes I counted 4 actual conversations with people at the mall and i DIDN'T BLUSH. I was my true witty self that I know I can be when I'm around my family. I talked to a member of my old highschool class (a girl whom I find attractive). I was in the happiest mood all day. I visited a customer's house to fix their computer and did it without any bit of hesitance at all. No "drunk-type" side effects all day. Physically I felt normal. Mentally I felt like the person that's been living behind my anxiety for the past 8 years. My sister told me i seemed like a different person and that she actually enjoyed my company at the mall. She even noticed little things like my walking pace being slower. This has been by-far the best day i've had yet and the interesting thing is, it's been the one involved with the most social activity. I can't get over it. I am truly amazed and I just hope this keeps working.

More good news! I also found out today that I now have health insurance. Now I can actually go see a pdoc and be taking this stuff under the proper guidance...that is after I convince him/her that it's working very well for me. But this is besides the point...I am just on Cloud Nine right now!! thank you Roche!!

unfortunately, after being on it awhile, you may have to up the dose. if not, you are lucky. also, if you try to get off it , after awhile, you may suffer a severe withdrawl reaction, and be worse than you were before. this is what happened to me. i was the exact same. found a new life with klono. then i decided after months of minimal use to up dosage, as it had stopped working as well. leveled off at 3mg a day, and decided to stop. tapered down slowly. worst thing ever...but i became worse off. i couldnt function. i shook and had tremors (still do) all the time, headaches and many other neruologic problems. benzos can mess you up long term. use with caution. i added u on aim.

I've actually heard a lot of stories like this and to be honest, they scare the living daylights out of me. So are you telling me now that you've tapered off Klonopin (after how long using it btw?) that you're permanetly worse than you were before? Did you taper properly? While I've heard horror withdrawal stories, I've also heard stories where people actually taper at an EXTREMELY slow rate where it takes them 6 to 12 months to be done using it. These are most of the stories that seem to be "successful" discontinuation.

I'm interested to know more about how long you took it, why you upped your dosage, and also how you went about the tapering process.

I am currently taking a total of 1.25mg a day between my doses and I dont ever plan on upping this. I am hoping to be one of the lucky ones where an increased dose in not required over time, as this is very common with Klonopin. If I do start feeling less relief then I might just start the tapering process and get off it. Taking over 1mg of this stuff already concerns
the bejesus out of me, I'm definitely not going to take any more.

Anyway, I dont know what I'm getting at. I guess I am just praying that I can at some point be one of those "success" stories in regards to long term usage of Klonopin. Until something better comes along anyway...
