Hello
Iv been on Prozac for 2 months for depression and anxiety (mainly depression). Started on 20mg then went up to 40mg after a month. It really did help, but my doc thinks not enough, and I agree. Still got v.down and couldnt be bothered to meet up with friends or do much. So we're trying Efexor now. Dont really know much about it though. To come off the Prozac, I have to do one week at 20mg and one week of nothing, and then I start on 37.5mg Efexor. I can see from other posts here and also the leaflet, that this is a really small dose though. Doc says he will increase it after a week. But why start with the smaller dose? I dont doubt he knows what hes doing, just interested really. And in what sort of jumps to you go up with Efexor doses? I mean, Prozac etc, people are all 20/40/60/etc, but this seems completely different. Oooh, one last thing. Are there different tablet sizes? I mean, what if you're on 300mg a day, do u have to take about 10 tablets??! Eeeek.
Any help would be appreciated!!

Ewwwwwa usually ppl get onto prozac to come of the effexor.. your choice though.. can you not try something else before the effexor? its a nightmare drug to wean off...

Buy starting low & building up slow your doc is trying to save you from some inital side effects. Capsule sizes are 37.5, 75 & 150mg. Effexor is good medicine, but it is hard to get off, I would atleast try something else first like Zoloft or Lexapro. Also, try & hang on to some Prozac tablets as they are a major help when trying to give up other similiar drugs as Prozac in the only Anitdepressant without withdrawl problems.
