if you need short term relief just take xanax, if you have persistent anxiety i feel klonopin wooks better and seems to be better in terms of addiction problems and such. it doesnt immediately calm you as xanax does. it depends on what you need and want.
good luck~

Klonopin has a long half-life (=lasts a long time) and is very mild but extremely effective for many people. It also can have mood-stabilizing properties. That would be my top choice, from what you describe.
Xanax is great, but wears off quickly and has a greater potential for tolerance (=you need higher and higher doses to relieve anxiety). My advice is to use it occasionally, although this will vary among individuals. It's also much harder to get a prescription because there's a stigma attached to it.
I hate Valium -- it just makes me sleepy and disoriented. But that's just me; others do very well with it.
