I don't know whats happening to me.
I've had social anxiety, and occasional bouts of depression for the last few years, but this is new.
I'm just sitting in my room, but I'm tense, my minds racing and it feels as if my nerves are on fire. I don't even want to leave my room, let alone go outside.
I just seem to have developmed this with no warning out of no were. I started to feel anxious just a few months ago after recovering from a period of depression.I live in the UK, which makes things difficult, because firstly its hard to get good health care unless your rich, and secondly they won't prescribe benzo's for love nor money.
I'm currently taking moclobemide 600mg a day, I have been on this dose for two weeks now. It doesn't seem to be helping at all.If anyone can recomended a course of action I would be really greatful.
Drug suggestions also apreciated, I have triad celexa and prozac in the past, but did not react well to them.
For what its worth I also have an ADD inattentive diagnosis. But I am beggining to doute if its right, are stimulent always calming if you have ADD? I don't really find dexedrine calming, although it doesn't really make me anxious either.
Sorry this post is so long!

Have you tooken anything? either 2 things panic attack, or drug reaction.
Ive had a BAD drug reaction with adderall one time, i took 30mg at 1:00 to study for some exams, then took another 30mg after it wore off, and man i dont know what happned but my nerves burned like fire, like pure adrenaline going throught my veins, and my heart beated soo fast i thougnt i was going to have a heart attack, nad like my hands went numb and and nose went numb and fingers turned blue! had to go to emergency room. And it wansnt even close to a overdose!Sorry that proably didnt concern your problem much, but i suggest maybe a benzodiazepine, mmmm maybe ativan, but im not a doctor, os really dont take my advice seriously. Get checked to see of you have panic disorder. Xanax is good for that, but isnt really effective in the long run, you meet addiction.

Oh sorry i didnt see they dont prescribe benzo's. Well man that really does suck.
Barbiturtes? Amytal, Luminal, Nembutal noo never mind, they never prescribe those anymore. But Luminal (phenobarbital) is proably the only one they will prescribe for anxiety, all the rest are mainly sleeping pills that are never prescribed anymore.
mmm Well there is Alcohol, but use it responsibly, cuzz you get sucked into it.
BuSpar is new, and non benzo, but it is expensive.
Mmm there is Trazadone, which is a older anti-depressant, with moderatly strong sedative properties.
The ancient MAOI's such as Nardil, Parnate may be helpful. But they don't prescribe them unless everything failed.
Well that all i can think of so hope it helps.

Hi Outsider,
From what you describe it sounds like you had an anxiety attack. Those can be awful and I hope you're feeling better.
As far as suggestions for medications go you might want to try Paxil. It's supposed to be very good for both depression and anxiety. Note: If you're sensitive to meds I strongly suggest starting out with a small dose.
It's unfortunate that you can't get benzos in the UK. Why is that? They're very effective for treating anxiety. I know that with benzos there is a higher risk of abuse than with other medications. (A lot of people here in the states use benzos for recreational use - something I don't agree with.)
For ADD, Ritalin is said to be very helpful as is Wellbutrin. You might consider trying one or the other.
Best of luck in finding the right medication. It can be a frustrating search, but well worth it when finally find the right combo of meds.
K.

Hi Outsider,
If you don't take well to paxil, try lexapro. Low incidence of side effects, and good as an AD, and panic as well. Start with 10mg - of course, you will have to give it some time to reach a base level in your body. Also, I noticed one individual already posted it, but buspar is the only anti-anxiety drug that isn't a controlled substance (at least in the states!), so it's propably worth your pocket cash. And the other route would be mood stabilizers, such as lamictal or similiar, but while effiecient for GAD (general anxiety disorder), Panic Disorder, and Agoraphobia, they might be over kill. Also, deep breathe - inhale for 4, hold for 4, release for 7. (Shallow breathing can definitely trigger a panic attack.)

Maybe you just need to give the moclobemide a little more time to work. You might also eventually need a dose increase.
ADD often goes together with anxiety and depression.
What problems did you have with Prozac and Celexa?

Is it possible Moclobemide is not the right drug for you and it is making things worse? I found it made me very anxious whereas other MAOI's made me less anxious. There are lots of options to try.

Thanks for all your posts.
I'm a bit reluctant to try an SSRI because both celexa and fluoxetine (generic) turned me into a bit of a zombie. No motivation, just wanted to sleep.
Motivation is a big problem for me at the moment, especialy when I consider that I'm in my final year of college.
I have reached the maximine dose of Moclobemide permitted under the dreadful health system we have here.
Any one have any experienc relivent to the UK?

I heard you found Remeron helpful, is that right? I think I might ask my GP for some.
Anything else that helps?
